I've just contacted Elephant, they want a extra £75.44 just to declare my standard alloys being sprayed white :omg: If i was still with quinn they wouldn't charge a penny so i think this is quite excessive tbh.
Anyone else been charged this much just to spray their alloys? :err:

Jesus! Glad I didn't go with them at renewal time!
It's usually free to declare as its just a lick of paint on the original wheels!

that is ridiculous! surely if you had them refurbed and sprayed silver again they wouldnt charge more?! what does the colour have to do with anything? i suppose its just because it shows you modify your car and are more likely to have it stolen or crashed. very excessive though

Thing is if it's a different colour then they see it as being more appealing to thieves so emailing them will probably get you nowhere

dont tell em that. Theyre standard wheels, if you crash say they came white from the factory. The engineer wont care about that if theyve got the ford stamp on em

Seriously? :err: You're probably right actually coz the st500 alloys are black out of the factory!!

Theres things they take the piss on tbh mate. Stuff like lowering, engine upgrades yeah they shpould incur charges. But stuff like painting standard parts shouldnt incur charges. Going under the premice of 'making the car more eye catching to a theif' is shocking.
Theyre desirable cars anyway, if a dude wanted to steal it hes gonna try anyway the wheels wont make a difference. If anything he'll be out off as they mark the car out from the crowd and make it easier to spot. Theyre just taking the piss. Same goes for upgrading brakes, the premium goes up for increasing safety
Selectice declaring is the way forward, stuff you can get around, get around. If the rims, or any other part in fairness, have a ford or affiliate stamp, then whatever colour it is its fine imo

but if you wreck it.when the guy from insurance company comes to have a look at it,he will spot the non-standard wheels a mile away.which is good news to them cause then they have the right not to pay out.regardless of how silly you and i may think it is.

not if theyve got the ford mark on them. Theyre still standard alloys, he could just say they came that colour and it must have been a dealership option. Which they wouldnt bother tracking down as its a commonly done thing these days.
He'd be much more interested in how standard it is mechanically.

But they are standard wheels.
Just dont tell them
Insurance is a money making business, they will do anything to get more money off you. Just go with the "stupid" approach. You dont know any different.
If you were TOLD they were standard you'd probably think they were, it's only because you KNOW they're not standard that your going to tell them.
In an accident they will replace for standard wheels (just respray them again)
And remember just because you tell them about some mods doesnt always mean they will replace them.
So pretty pointless.
Obviously it's all borderline stuff with what you declare and what you dont declare.
I.e. If you say its completly standard un modified, and they look at it after an accident and its reprayed and has a huge bodykit and wheels on then they are going to notice.

Yeah thats true mate, I know this first hand as I was interviewed by my insurance company and the police when I was crashed into, about mods on my car. But trust me some things they cant proove and theyre just taking the piss. Anyone who actuallty pays nearly 80 quid for spraying standard wheels needs theyre head seeing too tbh

If you have asked for a quote then how would you know they haven't recorded that on your file. Say you crash, they check file. Oh Hai, your not insured. Not worth it mate imo :)
