im ready to buy a camera now, and have been lookin for a secondhand canon 400d, but found this and woundered if its any good?

why try and save and get a cheaper body.

You will spunk more on lenses with sony.

Just get a canon, its more expensive but long term IS cheaper.

I'd advise to spend as much as you can afford, as you'll get higher spec, which you'll miss at a later date, and end up upgrading anyway.

not about spec if they are not going to use the functions.

Key things for SLRs is the glass, you can easily update a body as they tend to beout of date in 6months-1year. If you have 3k invested in glass for the 'wrong' system you cant just ditch it and get a different body.

Why at this stage choosing the right system is FAR more important than the overall spec. Glass is what counts.

not if you are planing on buying new lenses
