Thoughts?

Clicky (http://mobilementalism.com/2008/10/22/samsung-pixon-m8800-review/)

It's been delayed, it's out this Thursday supposedly.

Hoping to get to play with one when they come out to see if I like it or not.

I'm debating whether I'll like it or not.

I know the camera is 8.0megapixel, but I know that means nothing and won't as good as a digital camera but I want something all in one for nights out etc and those quick snaps.

Luke

Off to look at one of these at lunch and hopefully I'll have one to come back with :D

Not convinced by the Samsung cameras on their phones, not a patch on my c905 ericsson 8.1 megapixel.

Luke
28th November 2008, 12:53
Is the C905 a flip one?

GrantW
28th November 2008, 14:00
Nope its a slide phone, as close to a smartphone as you'll get without actually getting one lol

Luke
28th November 2008, 14:03
Got it infront of me now!

Woop, love it!

GrantW
28th November 2008, 14:38

our shop had them in at the beginning of last week, been playing with our demo one for hours

they are ace

not bulky at all

i'm getting one. and thats coming from someone whos never had a non-nokia phone.

Luke
29th November 2008, 11:06
Been using it for nearly 24 hours now and I'm very impressed.

Camera is flawless, touch screen very easy to use with no problems, sound quality on the music is ace, the sound quality when speaking to someone is very clear and texting is very easy on it.

It came with 1GB MicroSD card too, so can't really complain. Like Alex said they are not bulky at all really, same height as my 6230i and just a bit wider. Used the internet early, very quick for what it is.

I will get pictures later, but can't complain.

O2 have just another customer this weekend and I'm getting my own number transferred within 24 hours.

That is all.

Here are a couple of pictures I have taken with the phone.

I think this one is in Macro, but I didn't realise at the time and the other is one my desk area. I haven't changed any settings within the camera yet - like ISO, White Balance etc so not bad I guess - more than happy with it.

She isn't well in this picture, full of cold - hence the dummy :P

Luke

whats battery life like on it?

Seems pretty good to be honest.

Been texting, few phone calls, internet and charged it since last night. It's only gone down one bar.

good ain't it mate

Yeah love it.

----

Rang up Orange today, transferred my number across which will happen on Wednesday. I have 2 months free internet for now, I'll be trying to get free internet for rest of contract when that is up. Happy with it so far.

alextoffie

just sorted mine out tonight

been with o2 for 4 years but working at carphone warehouse i get 40% off orange contracts

rang o2 for my pac code, told them not to bother offering me anything because obviously the 40% off the orange contracts was too good to turn down

so here we go

-samsung pixon.... 1200 mins... unlimited txts... unlimited email... unlimited internet... free home broadband for 12 months

all for £26 a month

result.

Luke
1st December 2008, 20:15
Shame you couldn't get 40% for me.

Sounds a good deal though mate, even though when I checked car phone warehouse they wasn't doing this phone.

alextoffie
1st December 2008, 20:32
the only thing i can get for other people is called o2 preferential treatment

they're 12 month contracts, 1200 mins, 1000texts and a free fone for something like £20 a month... And obviously you can upgrade every 9 months

only problem is the phone list is limited, but you can get some good ones like the N95 8GB and the Tocco...

doesn't even look like i'll be using my 40% off anyway because amazingly o2 have matched the offer!

A lot of carphones dont have them in for some reason, i work in one of the Premier A stores so we always get full stock in, but give it a few weeks and they should all have it in.

Luke
1st December 2008, 21:04
O2 have matched it?

alextoffie
1st December 2008, 21:09
yeah, i rang them for my PAC code, told them about me getting 40% off orange contracts and the guy matched it basically

Usually the £45 a month tarriff gets you 1200 mins and 1000txts as far as i know

im getting that plus unlimited texts, email and internet... and home broadband for £26 a month.

Luke
1st December 2008, 21:12
Bloody good deal that, O2 didn't even try to keep me.

alextoffie
1st December 2008, 21:17
one downside i did forget to mention, he wants 30 quid for the phone

apparently they're only offering the pixon free on 75 a month contracts?! utter bollocks imo, i let him know what i thought of that lol

but the overall package was good yeah, saves me the hassle of swapping over numbers

they were shite the last time i went to the retentions department but this time have impressed me

orange are usually a lot better, my brother gets 600 mins and unlimited texts for £15 from orange

Luke
1st December 2008, 21:27
Yeah, that's another issue I had with O2. I managed to get the Pixon free on the Dolphin 35 Tariff.

Orange are excellent signal wise so far.

alextoffie
1st December 2008, 21:35
yeah its a good tariff mate, and you've got the phone you want, so its all good

cant wait to get mine now and start messing... been playing with the one at work for ages but not tried out the proper internet browsing yet

how've you found it?

Luke
1st December 2008, 21:39
It's good, but getting some use to.

Texting is easy if you use your index figure, but shit if using yer thumb lol.

Luke
3rd December 2008, 13:10
Number now been transferred over.

Battery life is quite good too.

mattvts23
3rd December 2008, 19:49
Im still undecided, always had SE. If only the Pixon had wifi

alextoffie
3rd December 2008, 20:24
i was pretty dissappointed about the lack of wi-fi

use it quite a bit on my N95

however, the unlimited internet bolt on will help get over that

alextoffie
4th December 2008, 12:44
got it through today, happy with it

only one problem, dont know if you could help with this luke?

ive got all my contacts from my N95 saved on the samsung pc studio phonebook bit, but its only letting me transfer them onto the sim memory of the phone, which obviously limits me, i've got over 300 contacts that need transferring

any ideas on how to put it onto the phone memory? obviously this is 200mb so easily enough

or other ideas on how to just transfer them over,

cheers

Robb
4th December 2008, 12:48
Save 200 to SIM, copy to phone, delete them off SIM, save remaining 100 to SIM, copy to phone. Delete all off SIM.

alextoffie
4th December 2008, 13:28
dont know why i didnt think of that before , duh

cheers mate anyway, took me 10-15mins but ive managed to do it

i wonder if there is a genuine way to do it, i'd hope so incase i need to backup my contacts properly in future for software updates etc

Robb
4th December 2008, 13:33
Lol, no drama.

http://www.jeyo.com/ is a really good bit of software for stuff like this. Costs mind.

Luke
4th December 2008, 16:16
I just manually inputted 127 contacts into my phone, as I was switching networks so I was never bothered of taking backups etc.
