In a typical Hollywood action film:

<ul>
There are explosions, LOTS of explosions
The bad guy(s) have British or Eastern European accents
The bad guy(s) are bumbling idiots who can't shoot straight and always miss whereas the good guy(s) never waste a bullet
The cook/janitor/librarian was once an elite member of special forces, but forgot to mention it on his/her CV
Someone/everyone will get their kit off
Computers never crash, respond instantly and use the same operating system as invading alien motherships (WTF)
The keys to the car/tank/jet-fighter are kept above the sun-visor (handy)
Despite intense international co-operation, it will be an American that ultimately saves the world (probably on 4th July)
[/list]

Am I cynical? Does Hollywood produce anything original these days?

It's more a money making machine than it ever was, as you may have guessed from my comments above, I don't give them any of my money.

Ha ha ha, you just reminded me of an incident many years ago (before the term Chav had been invented).

I was leaving a cinema carpark, and there was a car full of young lads in a modded Fiesta. Revving engines, spinning wheels etc... Acting like prats basically.

As they shot out of the carpark in front of me driving far too fast and trying to look the business smileys/smiley2.gif, their handbrake cable got caught on the exit barriers* and the whole lot got ripped out from under them.

As I drove past I struggled to keep a straight face, while all the passengers in the back tried to shrink from view.

* Those stupid things that fold down as you drive over them, no idea what they're called.
