Surprised how quick those VXRs are!!! :fcuk:

Hmmm, stats look very close.

Quick top trumps.....

Vauxhall Astra VXR
237 bhp
1393 kgs
BHP/tonne 172.87
0-60 6.33
0-100 15.59
1/4 mile 14.69

Subaru Impreza WRX 2003
221 bhp
1395 kgs
bhp per tonne 160.97
0-60 6.11
0-100 17.45
1/4 mile 14.89

I was wanting a scoob wrx next, but insurance was unjustifiable, so vxr seems like the next best thing performance wise and is better on insurance. :y:

Didnt know that the VXRs were slightly quicker on the 1/4 mile

the scoob would absolutely leather it round a track

237bhp through the front wheels

What about a Focus RS?

Investment?

What about a Focus RS?

Investment?

im sure they will keep their money for a good while, and be collectable, you dont see many about, and they will fall into the category of ford's racing heritage like the rs1800,rs2000 etc

Very close to my specs tbh.... but the VXR is definately ahead.

I wouldn't read too much into what that thing tells you, it doesn't take into account the sort of engineering of the car, vehicle dynamics nor gearing ratios, its all just theoretical figures, many of which are incorrect.

Ocego_VTR

astras are quick but a scooby could take one after a simple prodrive ecu.

Every man and his dog has a Scooby, have a VXR mate, not too many around and they are fast as fook

Cal
4th December 2008, 23:09
Can't compare them... Scooby will handle so much better and its not just silly power through FWD.

I personally think the Astra looks chavvy as hell IMO... chrome here, gills there oversized wheels. But then again mosta lot of examples of WRX's look chavvy too.

WRX, much more of a drivers car

Ocego_VTR
4th December 2008, 23:18
Also something else i'm adding how many WRX's are standard these days anyway most have been uprated to 260bhp what gives a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds.

VXR is the nicest sounding car ive ever heard for a general type car!

the guy round by us has stage 3 tuned his VXR at the same time as his mates RS.. the RS is quicker and does him handling wise too, but having been out in both/heard both and everything about them id take the VXR...

honestly cannot get over the sound of the thing, sounds like a jet

those figures for the scooby seems a little slow, not sayin they are wrong or anythin but my dad had a chipped sierra cossie doin 0-60 in roughly 6 seconds an his 03 WRX is definatley quicker, also parkers state..

wrx:
0-60 mph 5.7 s
Power Output 221 bhp

vxr:
0-60 mph 6.2 s
Power Output 236 bhp

Astra is as quick as the FST but handles worse & costs more to insure well for me anyway.

Its like 106 gti vs vts

Given the choice of the same insurance for the cars (scoob & VXR/ST) id be scoobying it tbh. & my car is quicker then the STi atm

A std VXR isnt as quick as a WRX epecially when you add a corner to the picture lol.

As JC said about the VXR;

'Given one id defend it to the hills , but would i buy one with money? Pause, even longer pause.. scrunched up face shake of the head No..'

'The asbo is the better car' Lolz. had to add that.

They are nice cars i wouldnt mind one if it was given to me especially a nice red one mmmmmm but i wasnt willing to shell out on one, id sooner have one over a CTR though lol.

Scooby land ftw or get a FST (i would say that)

Scooby for me as well, having driven the Astra VXR and the Corsa VXR (and owning a FST) you just can't get the power down on the front wheel drive cars, especially round a corner!

i would take a scooby anyday but at the same time the vxr is smart aswell,

why not get an escort cosworth would beat both cars hands down like!

Quaife do the same for the FST, youd think they would fit these things std but i suppose it opens up a market..

I dont really have any problems getting the power down on mine, btw if you havent got DS id recommend it, std the traction control ruins any fun and you have to take it off, well the maps make it work with the traction control:)

Escort cosworth again was on my list right at the top insurance was same as scooby :(

Basically, if you can afford the hike in insurance depending how much, then get one however if its alot i wouldnt bother as these cars can be made just as quick and can handle with right mods, even the astra lolz

Hasn't this scooby got a cosworth engine conversion and suspension that's adjustable from inside the car?

The 2003 is a bug eye if iirc which went up to a group 20 while the power went down to the same as a normal classic turbo, don't get one waste of money. The best scooby is the type RA (rally altered) 276bhp, lightweight chassis, lightweight glass, intercooler spray, 5th injector, close ratio box. 0-60 in just over 4 seconds makes this the one to have, many different variants over the years including the 555.

Well ive had a play with a STI or 2 and ive come out better off since my remap, epecially at higher speed.

I dont think scoobys are untouchable nowdays ..Ive seen numerous STis go down the pod at 14-15 secs.

& id like to say im a scooby lover.

Yeh i mean, it would be close if the WRX is at 270 would be close with the 270 Bhp ST,

Std WRX (which my mum has) is almost side by side maybe slightly infront then a std ST, but now no way lol.,

I just cant wait till i get these mods installed after xmas :D

Still sooner own a rex though

Seriously? Off the mark a well launched Scooby STi would do most normal things on the road if the driver knows how to launch it, if they're running 280+ bhp plus all that traction it is very difficult for any FWD car to keep up.

The standard Focus ST I drove felt like it could handle way more power, I'm sure yours has finally got the clout it's been begging for. 300bhp? I hope thats not pushing a bit hard now, especially with that refined set-up.. :P

Seriously ive had a few plays, maybe they couldnt drive or maybe my car is just quite quick, I know its FWD but its still a 2.5 20v Turbo + remapped

They can handle up to 340 on std turbo, uprated turbo will see it at 400 with right mods and theres alot of 340 Hper's out there with no problems whatsoever :), I will be stopping at around 3 though as I canny be asked lol, alot of power!

I took my uncle out today hes got a Boxter S 3.2 or 3.4 ltr jobby and his words were omg thats savage acceleration (Jamie tried not to show his smiles)

Dont suppose you were at lakeside shopping centre today jazz?

Editttt i doubt it since your ages away lol

STi's with small Turbo mods (340bhp+) can beat a Lamborghini Gallardo in the first two gears, and no I'm not on crack.. I never used to rate them that high but after some research they're really quite fast, especially from a standstill.

Lakeside shopping centre? Nope wasn't me, but funnily enough I wasn't far off last week saturday night.

I meant that your chassis might struggle a bit with the traction switched off with that sort of power? Or are you uprating suspension setup?

I'd imagine 270bhp would be nicely rapid dude... after xmas you really must take me for a spin, I'll drive up to Essex lol, I must have my faith in ST's restored.. The standard one left me a tad underwhelmed. :y:
