Anyone got one of these?

Mum got one yesterday (early present from Dad) and cost £245. It's quite nice too.....

Main thing is, it's running on Linux (takes up less space etc) and Dad said it's like Apple OS where it doesn't need a virus scan.

Quite impressed with it and can't go wrong at price really.

They are pretty good tbh. Much smoother running than Windows equivalent tbh. We sell loads at work they are the new in thing.

Iv kind of got one.... Mine is classed as a web book as its only 12'' buit has a 80 gig hd and 1gb pentium dual core processor, really good, cant fault it...

Linux is ok. I used it on my desktop PC.

She could always install XP at a later date if she couldnt get on with Linux.

Is Linux compatible with a lot of other software?

Just misses a CD rom drive.

nice, tho u can get them with the atom cpus that give u 8 hours battery life, about same performance and around same price range

Not really. They are alot of alternative softwares though.

It may have a normal desktop but from the ones i have seen ( i have not played with them fully ) its just big buttons and there are tabs at the top for settings etc.

lol. IMO they are a waste of money, if they wanted to they could prevent nearly all virus's etc the reason they dont is they make too much money from subscriptions its all a big con. Also if Windows wasnt so shit and easily hackable there wouldnt be a huge problem.

Get yourself a Ubuntu live CD and you'll soon know whether you're going to like it or not.

I use Ubuntu on my main PC and it's fairly good - depends what you use your pc though... if you're an avid gamer you might be better off sticking with Windows. Saying that, using WINE in Linux allows you to play the likes of CSS if that's your thing.

Ubuntu indeed, i went bareback. I didnt even run the live CD i just installed and made myself like it lol.

Had problems with sound drivers which was a massive problem so went back to windows.

I hate the linux system on them, so basic and a nightmare when using with kids!

They cant easily prevent all viruses without a system becoming unpractical, i.e. being prompted todo everything.

You cant blame windows for stupid users, If you run in a limited user account malware cant install so deeply, so just that account is effected.
Also if you keep upto date, dont use p2p networks there is no reason for you to become infected.

And Linux still requires updates to fix exploitable bugs.
