an apprenticeship would be a good place to start to gain experience then when your fully qualified you can move on to bigger and better things.

although im employed as an architectural technician, i still went through the same routes that i think you should also take.

i would look at your local colleges and see what courses they offer in that field. ask whether or not work experience is part of that course. when i started at college, part of the course was to do some work experience and so they found me a job. although that job wasnt what i was going to be doing for the rest of my life, i have since moved on to bigger and better things.

if you did go to college and then did some work experience as part of that course, then i don't see why your new employers would not sponsor you and put you through college until the end. once you have that bit of paper, you too can move on to bigger and better things.

I went to college, but im now having trouble finding a job in a garage because they want at least 3 years experience - something u just dont get at college.

They aint the least bit interested in the qualification i got!

ahhh but i was talking about going to college on a part-time basis (i.e. two days a week) and then working the other three days. this way, you would build up your 'hands-on' experience as well as achieving the qualifications.

after you have completed college and have that bit of paper, you can then decide where to go next. by that time, you would have had approx. two years experience and your existing employer paying for you to achieve that qualification.

Nah, didnt work out like that. I tried to get a job in a garage while i was at college but they didnt want somebody who was only gonna be there once a week.

Not too worried bout not being in the motor industry now - money aint that great. And the college course taught me enough to be able to do bits on my car without havin to pay a garage over the top prices.
