I need to get a car from approximatly 20 miles away and just thinking of some methods, the towing vehicle is a 2.0l peugeot parter.
will be towing a golf mk3 and yes the van is powerful enough and heavy enough

tow bar... much safer than a rope ftw clicky (http://www.screwfix.com/prods/30875/Automotive/Automotive-Accessories/Tow-Bar-Damper-2-Tonne?cm_mmc=Shopping.com-_-Automotive-_-Automotive%20Accessories-_-Tow%20Bar%20&%20Damper%202%20Tonne&trid=1229461379z372437z0a3c082e21378z&source=aw)
or even better, a trailer?

i aggree with trailer but that will take too long. also my grandad has a rigid tow bar (with damper) how is one of those fitted?
Is it just straight to the towing eye?

the ridgid bar fits straight into the towing eye i think not 100% certain though .but better than a rope as i got towed once was at a junction and some kid tripped over the rope when he crossed the road between me and my mate i was almost crying with laughter but i had to get out to see if he was ok

I would have got out, trying not to laugh, then upon trying to hold it in, cracked up right in his face mid-sentence.. I honestly couldn't have done it lol

Safest method is a trailer obviously,
Next option is a straight bar, just clips (and locks) onto both towing eyes.
Can't really get away with much else for towing vehicles on the road,
there are special things that the front wheels sit in and drops straight onto the tow bar with an apex on the front providing steering for the towed vehicle.
OR
Just blag someone with personal RAC membership to sit in the car with you.
Finally my nvq in vehicle recovery came in handy, I hope lol...
