what are the smoothed back pannels that you have to bond on like?
I have just found on for 21 quid.

they're shite. get it done properly ie. have a metal plate welded into the number plate recess then smoothed over. the cost of having one of those skins smoothed in and painted won't be far off the cost of having it done properly anyway, and a welded plate won't crack.

what make them shite then?

if you get a metal plate welded in (in other words have it done properly) then less filler is used. less filler=less chance of it cracking and having to be redone.

surely you dont use filler with these do you,all it said you have to do is paint it and bond it on.

you still have to fill round the edges to get it to be completely smooth! with welding a plate you'll still use less filler than with one of those skins imo. and those skins will eventually crack/stress with the force of closing the boot etc as they're only fibreglass. i'm sure the general consensus would be to have it done properly tbh. smileys/happy.gif

how much does it usually cost to have it done properly?
I imagine that I would need a boot poper kit aswell, are they a pain in the arse to fit?

if i was having it done, i wouldn't spare any expense to be honest and just bonding one of these on is the cheapskate way of doing it. As stated above it's FAR more likely to crack due to large amounts of filler required compared to welding a plate over the recess.
and yes, if you get you're boot smoothed, either way, you will need a boot solenoid kit.

Jon

oh, and expect to pay £200+ for a proper job.

around £170-£200 and £20-£30 for the boot solenoid. the bodyshop will be able to fit the solenoid for you but it's quite easy to do yourself.
