Who here is religious? Just purely out of interest, and if so, why. Personally I believe their is a chance that their is something out there, as i wonder how the world/universe was created. However, i also believe religon is "comfort for the masses" and it interests me how people can conform and believe in it!
What are everybody elses views on religion-christianity in particular.
Just finished reading Richard Dawkins - The God Delusion, hence me posting this

Not religious, unless the fact that I consider myself to be god counts.;)
Bought up in the Church of Wales Primary School and couldnt agree more that church is the security blanket of the masses without the ability to handle and understand the world around them.

flynnsvtr - I've been staring at your avatar for about 3 minuites now.
Total headfuck.
But about religion I'm not a religious person tbh, lifes what you make it, not what's in a book that those who are religious tend to follow.

dont get me started on religion.
they all need to get the fuck of the planet, good peaceful ones are as bad as sadistic and extreme ones.
every war on this planet has been over religion to some degree.
and what is religion, jsut something some bloke said was true, its utter bullshit and will be downfall of our society

Yeah i agree, it just makes me wonder why the hell people believe it. My housemate is really fit, yet shes a christian, has guys after her all the time and as far as i know is still a virgin, argh a waste of beauty! All thanks to a load of bullshit probably invented as a practical joke that the numbskulls of the world decided took too serious.

Religion was a bed time story we took REALLY serously.
There are too many different religious stories about what happened with no evidence to back them up. God created the planet in 7 days prove it.
There are too many different religions.

Whilst I'd like to believe... To me there is no logical sense for a presence/being/giant dude in the sky to be watching over us and 'protecting' us...
I mean firstly... if there is a heaven where our souls can chill out for eternity after a hard 60-70-80 years of living, then what was the point in living in the first place? why didn't we just all chill out in heaven first!? eh? EH?! Saves the hassle of some having to suffer in life first surely...
Speaking of suffering, why in buggery will people with a finger nail missing or have a touch of diarrhoea or whatever else, will claim they prayed to god and he cured them... why the fuck didn't he/she/it possibly consider saving a couple of million people from stavation, cancer, poverty with their almighty powerrrr.... why did he choose to cure some fat america bastard of a gammy leg?
Logical thinking leads to the conclusion.... there is nooooo god. We're on our own.
imo of course.
having said that... Religion fascinates me, and I do believe in tolerating peoples beliefs. Ridiculing it, ridicules our own history and development....

Just an addition...
If god created the world and created humans who evolved millions of years later. WTF was he doing all that time took him 6 days to create the earth and then a huge wait for us to come. Couldnt of done anything else with his time?

dadsayer informs me that whilst it says '6 days' who's to say whilst he was creating the earth that a day lasted 24 hours?
A day could have been 24,000,000 hours back then...

Theres no observable effects of any religion, so whats teh reasoning that makes people think their religion does anything at all? It relies on two over-used religious words..Hope...and...Faith.
The best one is when you ask religious people why bad shit happens there answer is almost always, god works in mysterious ways!

Would of been a good day of rest then.
I just find religion so un credable, there is and will never be any positive proof that there is a god until theres a flood and he picks me out water.

Tbh in the bible there are so many contradictions, apparently grass was formed on the THIRD day, whilst the sun was formed on the FOURTH, which leads me to think how the crap did it grow without photosynthesis being there, also with no heat wouldnt the temperature of the earth be absolute zero?

And for the record, NOT ALL CHRISTIANS BELIEVE in the literal interpretation of the bible... so don't tarnish them with the same brush as the retard in this video...

Actually at the formation of the earth a day was about 6 hours due to the speed of rotation back then. So basically he must be a REALLY lazy goit this god person.

so lazy that he went to the trouble of creating earth (this beautiful, incredible planet) but then couldn't be arsed to wave a magic wand to end prolonged suffering and cancer, or to save it from global warming..
I mean, he must have known that we'd pump hydrocarbons in to the atmosphere... so why the hell did he decide that carbon dioxide, methane nitrogen etc etc should be a green house gas...
why why why why why...

I agree basically share the same opinion. I will not disrespect others for their choices/beliefs & sometimes take onboard stuff that i decide is the path to righteousness (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=righteousness&spell=1)
It would be nice to be able to believe that theres a guy in the sky protecting us.. its just ideology (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=define%3Aideology&meta=)at its finest.
PS: God i dont want to go to hell for this
