My car is worth about 2000, i get hit in the back by a van, my insurance (helpful bunch).. tell me to take it to get looked at so we can repair it asap! so i do, i get a call back saying. "Sorry Mr.Lewis but the car will cost about £2300 to repair so we can't do that, however we can offer you £2000 and call it a write off"... WTF?

So i take it to a garage nearer to me, and get a quote for £1000, ah :) nice.
So i ring the insurance back and say that i can take the money and repair it myself and then were fine? No no, if i do that, my insurance is not valid as my car (In thier opinion) is un safe.. But it's been fine for me to drive the past week?...

So, now im absolutely 'effin fuming, and I now have £2000 for a new car, but my car after christmas, is Norwich Union's...
Happy fucking days.

I do hope no one's had anything similiar but, share your views please!
Rant over.

EDIT: the reason they couldnt fix btw, dont want to confuse anyone, is because the car being worth 2000, they wont repair it for 2300.
Lovely.

The back of the car is quite dented, BUT, after taking it to another garage, i was told nothing's out of place to make it "written off", but new back bumper and prehaps boot too, But how can one garage say they can fix it for £1000, and another say £2300?

probably to turn the job down...

Plus if insurance is paying, garages over price because if insurance are going to pay, they will...

JordzSaxo91

I can see both sides of the Story here.

From the insurance side of things, they are saying that if you take it to another garage not specified by them then you are not covered if anything goes wrong.

From your point of view JordzSaxo91 you found somwhere that quoted you less than the specified Garage that your insurance company use.

When I had my accident my insurance company wanted me to drive it down to Ayr (15 miles) to get it into a Coachworks, but I told them that the insurance would be void if I did that, as if the Police pull me over I would be playing piggy in the middle, with my insurance company denying me to drive the damaged car, and the Police booking me and me pos loosing my licence due to driving an unsafe car.

I told my insurance company that under the circumstances they should arrange to have my car picked up and taken to the Coachworks, as you couldn't open the passenger door because the door pillar was bent inwards preventing the opening of the door.

Now I paid £1000 for the car and got told by both the Coachworks and Nationwide Crash Repair Centre where my car had been taken after the coachworks declared it a write off, that it was a write off and to get in touch with my insurance company, and the 3rd Party's (Other driver) insurance company to tell them my car was a write off.

I got a cheque from the 3rd Party's insurance company for £1200, £200 went straight to HBOS to close my account down and the other £1000 in my account.

Once the cheque had cleared I withdrew £1000 from my main account and a futher £2000 from my premium bonds account and bought myself a new car.

Best thing to do mate is SHUT UP and get on with it.

Take the 2k, then buy the car back, and fix it.

your lucky mate, i bought my old car for 1600, had only done about 6000 miles in it, insured it for 1600 and when someone hit me they tried to give me 600 for it, but settled on 800 when i put up a fight!! half what i paid for it!! only had it for 7 months!! so you getting the value back is pretty sweet in my opinion!
