i have seen a lot of these for upwards of £1500, do they have 160bhp standard? i might convert from my VTR if thats the case, they must be pretty quick, and i imagine it would be easier to tune a 2.0 engine?

Search engine should have a few threads about the GTi-6. A popular replacement for Saxos on here.

dont no if a gti6 engine would actually fit in a saxo

it does, need custom mounts for it.

i was actually talking about selling my vtr for a gti-6, so with like a induction kit and exhaust sysytem it would be over 170bhp? in a hatchback that sounds very fast, i imagine its not that hard to get it to 200 bhp with the usual breathing mods and cams?

my apologies. converting from vtr and me feeling utter shit are not good for making sense lol

i would have to say the gti 6 is a better road car. its very underrated.
it is quite hard to achieve a genuine 200bhp as the stadard engine is quite potent fro factory. apparently changing the cams, filter, exhaust can get you around 190bhp. then you need standalone and tb's.

normal people dont realise, enthusiasts respect it. ive driven a gti 6 and spent rather a lot of time in one and they are a great road car even by todays hot hatch standards.:P

beat me to it lol is quite difficult to reach true 200bhp figure but its my goal in the future.

best to enjoy it in standard form for abit :y:

its an enjoyable car to drive

Turning circle is shite! I mean utter shite! My dads got one for the work run and he enjoys it. Not as involved as he would like but he is comparing it to a 180bhp metro he also uses.

Wouldnt mind a late china blue one or a black rallye... yum

lol its true its like turning an oil tanker

what about usual breathing mods, cams, and some head work and a remap? could that see 200bhp on one? there going for quite cheap everywhere i ahve looked, i think there superb for the price. VTRs and VTSs are rapid as it is, 190 sounds very very quick in such a light car.

there are a couple with that sorta work with near enough 200bhp so i guess its possible with the right mods and a good map for the ECU
they are going cheap now but uv gotta think about servicing costs etc they need cambelts/tensioners/water pump changed quite often (every 30k-40k miles)
oh an they tend to drink the fuel lol

Turning circle is only pants in one direction

all apart from the phs1 are a good 200kg heavier than a saxo.

beware of tapping from the head, means the cambelt has snapped in the past and not being properly repaired

expensive to get extra power from

agree with that. used some mpg calculator on a 306 site and it came back with i had got average 23mpg on the last 20£ i had put in :n:

one of my mates averages 15mpg, and thats comin from a vtr where he averaged 30 (i now own the vtr in question) they are bad on fuel, and the turning circle as mentioned is terrible. would much rather a vts, as would my mate

Or try going for a xsara vts - basically the same car and 167bhp...

Xsara VTS only has a 5 speed box and different suspension, the 306 is the better car. Turning circle isn't a huge problem and not being a middle aged woman I don't let that bother me. The MPG should be around 28mpg. They drink fuel if cained from cold or if you keep it at 5000RPM everywhere, much better to use the torque and keep the revs a touch lower for road driving.

Spec is good, nearly all have full leather and AC, auto wipers etc. Steering feel is a lot better than the Saxo while the back end is more likely to break, it feels more pointy and less safe than the VTS on the limit, though they are a lot easier to catch, superior steering feel means you are generally correcting any sort of slide very early.

Great car as standard, no where near as good to mod, I'd certainly leave it well alone and enjoy it for what it is
