yep, all new drivers have got to have there moments and heres mine smileys/smiley7.gif

come onto a roundabout in the inside lane. got half way round it then a 75+ year old thought he didnt have to stop so decided at about 30-40mph to come onto the roundabout and come straight into the inside lane i was on, i braked a bit an doin me horn thinkin hed stop but nope, so smacked into passenger side door an scraped from the front offside down to back end of the car

pulled over on the outside lane of the round about in a kinda safe place an i straght away called police an while waiting to be put thru to them shouted to this guy "are you fuckin blind" then he goes "iv been driving for 60 years and this is my first incident, and you were going too fast" "yeah maybe a couple of mph over but fuckin hell i saw u a mile off"

waited 30 mins for police but when he finally arrived i told him what had happend, he told me what to do as id never even been involved in an accident/incident like this so he watched us exchange details an stuff, took notes of the damage an regs of the 2 cars, then breathalised us saying its a standard procedure in a incident like this

then while old guy sat in his car gettin all his details i were talkin to copper sayin im doin a course to join the police an i were on me way to go hillwalking with college but missed the bus an decided to drive to them, then just generally chatted to him about what he does

will have pics up later on of damage

im crap at explaing stuff like this so if ya dont get sum or most of it just say an il clear it up

AdamW
23rd September 2005, 16:27
Soon as you hit 60 you should do a re-sit......

2 and a half years driving and ive never crashed or bumped my car....TOUCH WOOD... smileys/smiley17.gif

Saxonator
23rd September 2005, 16:36
but it shouldnt count for me as it wasnt my fault and there was no way i could of avoided it unless he looked proper smileys/smiley17.gif

old ppl shud b banned off the road, never mind resit, and if they have to do a resit they should only b allowed 5 minors

im sick to death of old ppl on the road cutting me up, not paying attention, gettin into accidents and nothin happenin to them

saxx
23rd September 2005, 17:06
shame most roundabout accidents go 50/50 unless one person admits to fault!

and im bettin the old person wont!

Saxonator
23rd September 2005, 17:07
yep thats what this guy was doing to me

if i didnt smack into him he would of cut me up an made me go off the road or sumthin, only took a glance over his shoulder to see if anything was there

but hey a picture is worth a million words eh?
Lady in here 60's actually said she was at fault and is going to fork out for damages, estimated at £2300..

the amount of times iv had near misses with old folk is unbelievable. i cant believe it sumtimes wen they seem to not realise ur coming, i mean i can get a wiff of the smell of foosty pish from a mile off smileys/smiley7.gif so why cant they notice me?

saxx
23rd September 2005, 20:52
i have extra indicators on my car now and some old guy still couldnt see them flashing!!!

i swear they should have medical tests aswell as driving tests when they get to a certain age!

my next door neighbour can barely walk but still drives round the streets like a looney!

23rd September 2005, 21:39
unlucky to hear about that mate! hope it all gets sorted out for you.

old people are dangerous drivers!! there reaction times are slow, there hand-eye coordination goes, there sight gets worse! obviosuly this doesnt apply to all old people, am generalising.
in my opinion, there shud be a certain age where people have to re-take there test and them from that age onwards, they shud have to retake their test every 18 months/2 years so that accidents that have been shown above dont happen

23rd September 2005, 21:47
unlucky Gav - unfortunately it does happen to the best of us

altho i'd hate being re-tested when i'm older i'd rather do that than cause an accident that could put other people at risk

was good of the police to oversee everything since you hadn't gone through it before.

No doubt controversial, but I think that age should be 17 years old! I'd have no problem taking my test every few years - good drivers would have nothing to fear.

Yates
23rd September 2005, 22:59
mark - iw udnt have nothing to fear, but uve got to see everyones point, and im sure uve seen old ppl doin wrong on the roads, thing with 17 year olds they have quicker reactions, if something happens they may be able to prevent it, like the saxonator, he sed it could of been worse

i think there are alot of good but stupid young drivers out there, but the old ppl with no reactions are the most lethal ones on the road imo

Saxonator
23rd September 2005, 23:36
thanks everyone for sharing experiances an support

up to now the old bugger is tryin to say im at fault by sayin he was already on the roundabout and i was the one swerving into him smileys/smiley3.gif

iv phoned the copper up that was at the scene to see if he had anything to back me up on but he said you can look at it in 3 ways. 1. im the young driver with less experiance an he is the older with "more" experiance, 2. it almost looks as if i swerved infront of him causing him to smack into me and then theres the fact i parked up infront of him when we were waiting for the police to arrive

The things im tryin to look up now is that there is a cctv camera jsut over the roundabout that may have been looking at the scene of the accident at the time and then there was a guy in a old shaped Clio right up my arse goin round the roundabout that would of seen the whole thing, looking around on the local car sites to see if he is on there an willing to be a witness

oh and while all this had been going on my phones formatted the memory card which has lost all my pics of the past year an all pics of my car today smileys/smiley7.gif 2nd time its happend now

I see all sorts on the roads smileys/smiley2.gif , but I don't consider old people to be a particular menace to society. Perhaps a hazard, but very low risk.

I've just been digging around the Office for National Statistics Web site smileys/smiley3.gif

In 2002, 31% of all male 15-19 year old fatalities were road deaths (18% for female 15-19) - Compared with 0.2% male 70-74 and 0.2% female 70-74). The stats tell a very sobering story.

Off topic, can anyone tell me the difference between risk and hazard?

These situations can get messy, if there are sufficient witnesses the insurance companies should be able to apportion blame appropriately.

I always add this when I hear of accidents, at least everyone is ok - no injuries.

I hope you get it sorted out.

I almost got run over by an old guy in a saxo today. I was crossin the road and he came sailing through the lights as if they were green!

Old people like that really should re take their test.

we should get a petition goin about these old buggers ! smileys/smiley17.gif

24th September 2005, 03:29
have u got legal cover on your insurance? cus if i were you id take it all the way to court thats what you pay it for and these old buggers are always gettin away with it rarely a day passes when i dont see an oap cut someone up or jump a red light itslike there oblivious to whats goin on around them smileys/smiley7.gif

Yates
24th September 2005, 03:31
yeah young people are bad but all im saying is people ignore old people,

like some people say some can hardly walk but then they are allowed to jump in a car n drive around

i also think its weird the way the survey is 15-19 y/o shows how many ppl under age drive

personally if ur only allowed to learn to drive wen ur 17, then there should b a age restriction saying when you cant drive as your too old, unless u can take the relivant tests

Update, still nothings been done to the car but got a Damage surveyor coming to asess the damage of my car on Monday and iv got an appointment booked in Physio for my back (so got to get myself roughed up playin rugby before i go for that smileys/smiley2.gif )

Hes tried to get a courtesy car (at my expense smileys/smiley7.gif ) the cheeky cunt and thats really set me off on one, im claiming everything i can now that iv found out hes tried to do that, its like hes milkin me as if it were my fault smileys/smiley7.gif

also, since the asessor is coming to look at my car on Monday, i still havnt told my insurers about my Tints and Zorst, will i get fined or anythin bout not tellin them about it ? smileys/smiley5.gif

will have more info on Monday

Sean
9th October 2005, 01:40
you're insurance will be void if they find out that you haven't told them about ANY modifications, and you'll get no money at all and when the police find out, you'll be charged with what effectively is an IN10 (driving without 3rd party insurance cover).

get the tints off and swap the exhaust back to standard.

Saxonator
9th October 2005, 01:50
the police have nothing to do with the incident as there was no casualties involved, its just insurers that are sorting it out now

cant i just phone my insurers tomorrow and declare them then and say iv only just got them ?

Yates
9th October 2005, 01:52
yeah but if it goes to court and it comes up that its void ul get fucked

Saxonator
9th October 2005, 01:59
but i will be the only person to know about the tints an exhaust cause the police havnt written anything down about it, old guy wont remember an il just say a mate helped me fit them on Sunday

C2_VTR
9th October 2005, 15:15
But if your car will be getting inspected on monday they will see it then and still see it had not been declared. Best advice is if you can still do it get rid of tints and try to get exhaust back to standard before they come round.

old people should have higher premiums than young drivers if you ask me!!yeah new drivers are inexperienced but at least their alert unlike old people!!the insurance companies need to rethink things if you ask me!speed doesnt just contribute to crashes people not paying attention and being down right stupid does!!and the majority of people not noticing cars right in front of them...old people!!

Tony_Jay86
9th October 2005, 19:04
Me & my dad were is his van & came to a mini round about, there was an old guy in the car infront, he got on the round about & then suddendly stopped casuing my dad to rear shunt him, we both pulled over & the old guy said that there was a car coming from his left & his wifed told him to stop smileys/smiley5.gif , he had the right of way & if the car had gone into him then he wouldnt of been blamed, but luckily there was no damage to either vehicles, all 60+ year olds should re-take there tests & i can say that more then 60% would probably fail as time has progressed & theres more rules & more safety involved compared to when they passed back in the 1940-50's

rsands
9th October 2005, 19:12
the insurnace guys will not pay out if they find the slightest off mod you haven't declared! return car to standard if not declared or else expect a no pay out!

exhaust, air filters, tints....anything!

rsands
9th October 2005, 19:14
and any wonder we young ones ahve the accidents...its cause the old people are the ones causing us to swerve and do the damage!!!

i have had numerous old people just pull out and causing me to swerve the car on opposite side of road and slam brakes on! then they drive on as if nothing has happened at all! way i look at this one...you were on the round-a-bout first ye?? first person already on the round about has right away no matter what!

Saxonator
9th October 2005, 23:44
yeah i was on round-a-bout first an thats exactly what copper said and parents said that i would have right of way

iv been talkin to mum an dad in more detail about what insurance we are all on (fleet insurance with Norwich Union) and my parents are telling me i can do anything to my car and not bother telling the insurers cause of the type of insurance smileys/smiley5.gif

if anybody knows more about this Fleet insurance and know if this is true can you tell me please

Im back again smileys/smiley17.gif

person came today to have a lookie an said i need a new passenger door an rear panel then some other bits then he was on his way lol

SO

i was thinking (well my mum and dad were thinking) that i could get a 2 tone an de-locked on insurance pay out by a mate of mine that owns a body shop ?

is it too risky do you think ?

its just an idea for now until i know what the insurers have decided about whos fault it was (HIS)

Sean
11th October 2005, 00:52
i think trying to get a two-tone respray out of that may be taking the piss a little tbh, but nothing to stop you getting (and accepting) as high a quote as you can find for the repair work to be done, then spending the money how you like. (technically fraud, but you wouldn't be the first to do it).

Saxonator
11th October 2005, 00:57
yeah thats what i was thinking, Go to Citroen and get the highest quote in the world then go to my dads mate to get the work done cheap then extras on modding lol

If its him paying for it (his insurance) then i will be most certainly doing this just as he is trying to make this out to be my fault so fuck him lol

I hit a Laguna in my work car park a few months back. I was driving quite a bit away and she stopped to turn into a parking space but signalled me to drive past. So I did just as I was going to drive past she turned into the parking space so I slammed into the side of her. Raging!!! I ended up with a dented front wing, my front bumper wrecked, my headlight smashed and everything else about in my engine! The insurance favoured her as I hit her and my insurance went up £30 a month. Shocking!!!

DDC
11th October 2005, 14:18
Oh and forgot to say she got a scratch on one of her rub strips, why claim the insurance?

Saxonator
11th October 2005, 21:27
i dunno mate i dont really understand how to go about claiming an stuff as parents are sorting it out for me

It was a Renault Laguna that hit me too

11th October 2005, 21:32
unlucky mate sorry to hear about the sax, i had some old geezer pull into my lane and forsed me into the kerb, they guy carried on driving like nothing happened!! i didn't see any imediate damage until i got home a realised it had slashed my tyre!!! the old twat!!!

Saxonator
26th January 2006, 20:14
Im back again smileys/smiley17.gif but this time GOOD NEWS!!!!

in the middle of washing the Sax today and my solicitor phoned me up saying that shes recieved a cheque from the old guys ppl to pay for the damages to the car smileys/smiley4.gif

Being overwhelmed with joy smileys/gay.gif i didnt think to ask how much the cheque was for so il have to wait until that comes through next week smileys/smiley7.gif Hopefully in the ranges of £1500-£2000 which had been the estimated repair costs but we all know its not going to Citroen to be repaired smileys/smiley2.gif

Got another final medical next Thursday to go about my personal injury claims and hopefully thats more dosh in the piggy bank for the next car

My plans once everythings been sorted and outta the way now is to get the car fixed asap (on the cheap) and sell it on, scrape all my dosh together and see what els it brings to the drive smileys/smiley4.gif smileys/smiley4.gif

good news at last then bud smileys/smiley20.gif looks as though the old guy crumbled smileys/smiley17.gif

6o years no claims down the drain, bet he's gutted smileys/smiley3.gif thats if car insurance has even existed for 60 years.
