Right quiksilver is going, need to get the plate off it. Now car has no mot or tax, the plate is going on retention. How do I go about this? does the car need to be motd or do I just fill in 1 form and include the £105 fee for retention?

i have the same problem. personally i think it should be able to put it on retention as it is not the plate the car was originally registered with

I do these at work day in and day out.
Car has to be mot and taxed

also if there is a gap in rfl etc the car maybe required to be inspected

Different rules apply in that case. Though there is a timelimit to remove it in.

if the vehicle gets scrapped/sold on with the plate on it effectivly gets lost

what an utter pain in the shit whoever in their infinite wisdom should be kicked in the balls for making that rule up.

how do you go about it? there must be some way of doing it, i mean there is no break form when the tax finished and being sorn and still within the 1 year time limit.

stupid stupid rule, well looks like a weekend working on the car then

get a mate in a mot garage to mot it for you as long as you promice to scrap it straight away he should be fine if you swing him a few quid!

Yeah doing the above is a real good sure fire way of the tester loseing his licence!

only way to do it is mot and tax it
once retention has gone thru you can use a v14 form to reclaim the remaining tax

Right boys and girls here are the facts of getting plate off car onto retention.

The car does not have to have current tax if it has been SORN then its ok as long as it it has been in the last 12months with no break in the SORN ie tax finished on 30th SORN must be before then or on that date.

The car does not require a current MOT, again if the MOT has run out as long as it has been in the last 12months then you will be fine.

Stuff you need to take into DVLA office

V5 for car
SORN form for car (not necessaRY as they can find you on system)
V317
The last MOT certificate (see above if it has expired ok as long as it aint over 1 year)
£105 for the retention fee

If you are sending it to swansea then you will need to enclose a covering letter to say mot has expired and car is SORN, include above documents and cheque payment
