I put my headunit off my old car into my new one the other day. Thing is though it kept losing all the settings etc so i've just swapped the yellow and red wires over as they had bullet connectors. When I plugged the battery back on, had a few sparks and now the headunit doesn't turn on even with the wires back to their orignial postions.
The dials have also frozen (well petrol and revs have stayed at 1000 revs and 3/4 tank of petrol). Broken fuse maybe?? Need help on this ASAP really!!
Thanks
UPDATE 2:
Tried new fuses and no joy. When driving back though the headunit was kind of coming on then going off.
Bearing in mind that cigar lighter, central locking, interior lights, clock on dials, dials don't work. I don't have a clue whats wrong .
Anyone....please??

I have done - still the same now.The car still runs fine and everything just all the interior electrics seem to have gone stange.
The dials work fine but when I turn the car off they stay at whatever they were on (so the revs stay at 1000, petrol stays at 3/4 tank etc). Interior lights don't work, cigar lighter doesn't work, remote locking doesn't work etc.
Seems really weird!!

The bit you said about the cigar lighter, central locking etc etc, all run of a fuse in the passenger fusebox, i cant remember what size the fuse is or its location but i can find out if you need it.

to sort the head unit out you need to swap the permenant live with the ignition live, iirc its the thin and the thick (blue/grey) wires. havent got a clue about the dials freezing mate
I had to do it for my CD player,

Make sure you have it wired up propperly.
Sounds like a fuse though, it should be F8 which is 20 amp. It is in the bottom right hand corner when you look at it.

It's because the connections on the back of the new unit will not match those from the car. I had the same problem in my VTS and an aftermarket head unit. I bought a converter (block) from Halfrauds that sorted it. Just told them what headunit I had, what car and they sourced me the correct part. I paid around £15 for one then. They may be cheaper now. By buying one of those saves messing around with the actual car and headunit wiring ESPECIALLY if you come to sell the car and the old headunit goes back in.
