Hey, had my mk2 vtr for a few weeks now and since i got it there seems to be a grinding noise. It only occurs when i am in gear and seems to quiet down a little when i accelerate. The noise isnt too loud but sounds like something is rubbing and wearing away. The sound seems to be under the bonnet but its hard to tell.
Anyone got any ideas of what it might be?
Car was just mot'd and nothing came up on that??
cheers

it could just be the bearing.

does it make a difference when you put your foot on the clutch?

it could be bearing but it can just be cheaper to get a new box from scrap yard

hi yall im a gearbox rebuilder by trade, sound like the diffs on its way owt, but i would check oil on drain plug like mentioned in above post and see if oil smells burnt and is discoloured, usually goes grey when box is scrap, oil should be like a goldy colour but nine times out of ten nobody changes gearbox oil on a service so probably never ever been changed in its life.

how much do you charge for a gearbox rebuild

usually 150 to 200 gets u a fully reconditioned gearbox from myself matey, full set of bearings through it, all synchros checked and cleaned up, all gears stripped and cleaned down to remove contamination, box rebuilt with all relevant gaskets where required

located as a torque bolt, its where casing joins to bell housing, if u luk under car at front passenger side u will see it. If u get stuck on gearbox see jim at a company called Automotive Automatic and ask him, he can point u in right direction
