Good luck getting any kind of job atm, been searching for about 2 months and have got fucking nowhere lol.
If anything is offered to you, regardless of the pay, just take it until you find something else.

The valeters at land rover are all russian etc lol :P
Strictness varies from place to place with every job I guess, pay is decentish I presume, nothing to brag about and you wouldn't be able to run a house on your own back.
Jobs a job at the end of the day.

I work in the motor industry and am incharge of making sure the cars are clean and displayed correctly and on time. Im employed by bmw & rolls Royce and have to chase up the work for our valeters. Its very hard work as they have on average 20 cars to clean a day, if not more.

Mate cleans cars for a dealer, apparently they're laying a few off just recently, so not good.
As mentioned before, stacking shelves, at night, if you go for a shop that shuts, no customers, can just get on with the job, and have a bit of a laugh if you get on with everyone. If you do go for one when the shop's shut though, it aint as easy as most think, ok, its not the hardest job in the world, far from it, but, you usually have to aim for an average of 60 cases an hour, which is get the case of stuff, find it on the shelf, decide if its going out, if it is, open it, get it out, break the box down, and move onto the next one, all within a minute, easy in some situations, a complete bastard in others.
(Think, 16 x 6 packs of crisps, and you can't decide if there's enough room on the shelf or not, bearing in mind you aren't supposed to only put half the box on...if you go for it, and they don't all go out, whaddya do? Hide some? Take em all back off? Clock's still ticking...)

the valeters at my dealership arent employed by the dealership owners. We sub-contract (is that the right term?) all our car cleaning out to another company. Dont know what happens to them when we start using a different company!!
But like everyone else has said, dealerships are dead slow at the moment, especially car sales..all u would be doing is cleaning the same cars on the forecourt over and over again, de-icing them etc and then doing service washes on whatever may come through the workshop!! one plus side (that our last bunch used to do to us other employees) is that you can charge the technicians (and other menials like me who dont get company car) about £10-£15 to wash their cars and that goes straight into your pocket for doing something you do anyway!!

lol...dont blame ya. I vowed I would never get a paper-round! but, desperate times call for desperate measures...haha
If you are happy with what being a valeter entails then go for it. Find out whether your local dealers employ the ppl themselves or whether they use a seperate company (like we do), in which case you would obviously have to apply directly to that company!!
Good luck :y:

good to see you have an optimistic outlook on life!! lol, only joking...but i have known a couple of ppl trained in IT who have struggled to find jobs!!
you should apply for a whole load of jobs (all sorts, not just dealership) all together (but remember to change your C.V each time you do to suit the position you are going for) and then if/when you get offers back you should have a few that you can think about instead of just getting one and thinking you have to take it coz you might not find something else...
