just so you all know, incase youre thinking of getting HID light upgrades or already have them.

since everyone has pretty much stopped tinting front windows the police and VOSA are looking for something else to pull people for.

This time its HID lights. MOT inspectors are also being told to be on the lookout for them. Possible action from vosa/cops includes a prohibition notice + test at a vosa centre and possibly a £60 fine. The ACPO is also pushing for this crackdown.

Time to tint front windows I guess then.

In the space of about 18month i payed roughly £300 in fines for tints and illegal plates. I admit, tints were waaayyyyy illegal. But the plates were VERY readable. I picked the easiest, least flashy font i could but it still looked smart. And with the car being low, i had 'on it's arse' at the bottom, in very small lettering. Anyway, the cops pulled me for them once and said i could serve time for having 'arse' on my plate lmao.
Eventually i just got the cage & ripped tints out and changed plates. Now have NO signs, STANDARD font and no other writing what so ever. Not been pulled since.

Mine comes with HID (Xenon) bulbs standard, and I wouldn't have it any other way, love the crystal white light.

They must have something better to do, seriously..

I think as long as your HIDs don't glare oncoming cars then I expect most police will leave you alone

police have never said anything to me over my HID's

theyre fitted to angels though and pointed well down at the road, so no glare

I find them really effective, visability on poorly lit roads is really good. I think its just when people don't install them well they might glare at other drivers, but thats a sorry excuse to ban them. So many Beemers, Audi's etc are using them nowadays.

Aftermarket HID kits are actually putting other drivers at risk, so i think this is totally fair.

Cars which have them as standard almost always have optic lenses(projectors) to focus the beam which greatly reduces glare to other drivers. If they don't have them fitted the reflectors will have been designed specially for the job. Fitting an HID kit to a headlamp designed for tungsten halogen lamps diffuses the light a lot dazzling oncoming cars, and especially when it's wet out can cause accidents blinding oncoming cars...

So no it's not just another way for the government to screw you, it's for the safety of other road users.

if theyre factory fit there legal

its just aftermarket kits that are banned... arent banned in the US though, anything up to 10,000k is legal

the factory fitted kits over here are about 4000k if i remember rightly

Good job in my opinion but nothing will come of it. If your HID headlights are factory fitted then they should be ok as they are tested properly, its the after market ones they need to hit. I am sick and tired of being dazzled by tossers with overly bright headlights. It has the same effect to oncoming motorists as driving with your fog lights on.

Totaly agree with you. Tbh the HID headlamps that come standard with some cars are still very bright and dazzling. Even more so when your driving down country roads with a aftermarket kit fitted that blinds you 2 death.

Ban HID's all together imo nothing wrong with halogen bulbs they work and are less dazzling.

That sound about right :) Am I right in thinking that angels have this "projector" style lamps? I've got H.I.Ds but only running off standard headlamps, although I do have some angels waiting to be fitted :)

Hope this won't affect MOT's as I love them :(

The new Honda Civic (FN2 shape), Renault Laguna (not latest model) and mini all have HIDs from the factory but without projectors, will they get pulled too?

What about the new Mazda 6? They have 6000K HIDs with projectors as standard in every model iirc but blind me all the time.

Rightly so, I also hate the amount of times I get dazzled by the non factory fitted ones. I have fitted some extra bright bulbs in my car, 90% brighter than standards and you can tell the difference but they are fully road legal.

They'll do me...

true but factory ones dazzle you too :homme:

a range rover sport was behind me other day and i could hardly see any thing they were so bright. same driver flicked his full beams on when we both turned on to a darker lit road that was it for me then i had to pull over let him passed as i was literally in danger and couldn't see a thing :panic:

the great if you've got them but if your in front of a car with them or a car driving towards you has then i fully understand why they should be banned, plus i think they're heading towards being the next chav mod as every chav is getting them now. once again its become a case of standard ftw for me lol ;)

You also need to remember that if your car is lowered and you're getting blinded by everyone then its because your car is so low, so its not the other drivers fault.

So if i had a Lotus Elise it would be my fault? Rubbish. ALOT of new cars have headlights that dazzle you rediculous amounts. Just picking on HID's isnt enough tbf, they ought to have a word with car manufacturers. But you say they're picking on HID because it's dangerous, no, it's our bloody government and police force wanting more money again.

No, I ment if your car is lowered you will be blinded by normal/standard cars because they are higher than you so their beam will be on your eye level etc. Thats why everyone complains about Range Rovers.

Range Rovers affect me and I drive a 307 which is a LOT higher than even a standard Saxo.

But you sit lower in an Elise than you do mine, and mines nearly as low as you can get a Saxo really. So they're going to be blinded more your saying? And it's their fault for being low you said? It's a standard height!

True, i've been in plenty standard height cars and still blinded by newer cars.

i find it more annoying when its glaring behind you

like when they are oncoming they pass in like 4 seconds, but when they are behind you and its shining in the mirrors its more annoying

you do know that there is a lever on the rear view mirror to stop glare from cars behind. With the side mirrors adjust them so that they don't reflect into your eyes. Shouldn't ever have a problem from behind

There will always be situations where you will get glare from oncoming traffic, HID or not. Just slow down when visibility is a problem

Dan

It depends what rating they are. Most people go for 6000k plus, generally 4000k & 4.3k are ok and the glare isnt bad.

Ive got pulled for having a brake light out like 2 weeks ago, he checked literally everything on the car including the headlights and said he was very happy with it all, just had to get a garage to stamp a form to prove id changed the brake light. I was even asked to switch between high and low beam a few times, they made the clunking noise he obviously recognized they weren't normal bulbs and he did nothing.

Ive got 6k's, they're just white so they're not imitating the emergency services, I have them correctly aligned and Ive never had another road user flash me because of them

Not sure why you have some kind of personal vendetta against HID kits but you should really stop worrying yourself about it because no one really gives a fuck the tenth time round
