Im looking to modify a saxo VTR for my 1st car. I want to style it slightly but not going OTT, with crazy bodykits ect. So just wondering what some good subtle mods would be that can make a saxo look really good.
Thanks.

Lowering is your first priority :y:
then a good set of vtr/s wheels and probably a dimma grill or another form of badgless girl!
browse around on the peoples cars section to find ideas :y:
Welcome to the site btw !

Ok cheers, im thinking of keeping it simple but im really liking the idea of lowering by 50mm do you think that thats a good look or is it too low/hig?
Thanks

mines lowered by 40mm with 15 inch allows, never scrubs with a full car and fine over speed bumps

Sorry to rain on parades etc. But I'm with churchill and I'm pretty certain they don't allow mods of ANY kind until you're 25.
Unless of course they don't mind having a younger named driver if the policyholder is over 25, I'd be interested to know how it works, insurance really grinds my gears :p

direct line dont let you do any modifications unless you are over 25 so i would think that churchill may be the same now.

if u cant do mods cos of insurance do very subtle mods with standard parts etc. such as saxo vts alloys, peugeot seats. badgless grill, early mk1 standard smoked rear lights etc.
i no of alot of people who dont declare there mods. some people take it more seriously than others as it is a risk at the end of the day as if you accidentally roll into a shop or a bentley, insurance wont pay out which can be a ball ache
however saying this a friend of mine went back to the roadside before his wreck got towed away and got his backbox and induction kit of in 10mins with a couple of bolts.
another bloke i new with a 106gti crashed it with undeclared lowering and got away with it as he had his front springs powdercoated black so they were none the wiser lol still is taking a risk tho

dnt change the vtr alloys they look ace once lowerd.
-if you want a change then spray ur alloys.
-also painting ur brake calipers makes a decent improvement and you dont have to have bright red or yellow if thats to in ur face. have them silver (beast rust lol).
- if its a mk2 spray the outside or grille same colour as car and leave the 2 centre slats standard.
-t-cut rear badges
-change the vtr badges for citroen sport ones or saxo ones like i have so people thinks its a furio untill u put ur foot dwn hehe lol.
its all the little things u do that make a nice car not just a body kit or alloys.

Ok thanks for that. I was going to keep the VTR rims anyway and i aint that keen on bodukits ect, i just want it looking nice but not OTT. Id rather concentrate on performance mods more than visual as visual mods are cheaper and i dont want to go crazy so shouldnt cost too much to get it how i want it.

Iv had a few from them and there the cheapest lol, i dont know how to get it any cheaper without lying about where i keep it ect. Some people i know have quotes around 2k and thats for a 17 year old with a 1.6 VTR.
Any help???

Quiin insurance
You only pay for performance mods(engine/exhaust/suspension)
and the price aint bad either!
Saxo_VTR_Briggsy
29th December 2008, 22:24
yeah there my lowest atm but i read the thread on dogy insurance and want to start my own off. pretty steep but it will be worth it.
Mikol
29th December 2008, 22:24
Be careful with Quinn, if you havnt passed your test the price will be great, but it rockets when you do.
Quinn's a good place to go though, especially on your 2nd year. Most of the time they wont change their prices because of mods unless it adds power :) So Alloys, bodykits etc are all fine, but I'd still make a point of letting them know.
Saxo_VTR_Briggsy
29th December 2008, 22:27
yeah, iv done the quotes saying that i have passed ect and i got my quotes for as if i had passed.
Straight away i wont have any mods but after a few weeks/months i will be doing some.

if your insurance is that high have you looked at a furio??
is is a vtr but with rear drum breaks instead of discs difrent exhaust and a 1.4 instead of 1.6.
alot cheaper on insurance but looks the same.
they are still 75bhp aswell so now exactly slow.
they also did a westcoast in the older shap which is the same a 1.4.
sorry if someone has already mentiond this i just throwing an idea ur way.

the easiest things to give a better appearance are:
- suspension
- exhaust
- colour code
- de-badge
- 15's maybe painted in a different colour to suit
thats a good foundation, anything else is personal taste, the above will make your car unique but not OTT.
