Good question but I cant really answer your question. I can say that it is illegal and a MOT fail to boot if you don't fit them.

Your MOT station did not do there job then. From the MOT hand book reasons to fail.
There are less than the required amount of reflectors facing to the rear or where two are fitted they are not symmetrical.
A reflector not facing the rear
A reflector not red in colour
A reflector not in good working order or not in clean condition, ie so damaged or deteriorated that its function is impaired
A reflector obscured.
A reflector insecurely fitted
A reflector obviously incorrectly positioned
A reflector rendered inoperative by being painted over

he prob did and he is right though there illeagal cause they dont have reflectors built in like standard ones do!!!
i cant explain this, ours pass a mot with them on and no reflectors as well and between me and the wife, we've been tailed by the Rozzers and not been pulled!!!
but to ans the original quest - most folk dont put the reflectors on so its up to you but if the Rozzers are arsey where you live and you think you will get grief then keep them on !!!!

Never had them on my car.. and don't know anyone that does.. (reflectors)
When it comes to MOT.. just swap them for standards.
that's all.

I have got these lights, came with reflectors. I did not fit them.
Been stopped by the police all the time but they have never mentioned anything.
With MOT, they do pass. Well, mine did.

The police will likely not pick up on reflectors when your driving as you both have your lights on. The reflectors are for when your parked and a backup for if a light fails. I guess as these look a lot like standard lights just a bit darker perhaps the MOT people are just thinking there standard and not even botching testing them. Though not having them is illegal and will defiantly fail a properly done MOT.
PS even if the police do pull you most likely you will only get a verbal warning, perhaps a fix it not or if there really grumpy a £30 fine with NO points. Not exactly the end of the world
