Hi All, have any of you had this or know why it might be happening? Also how important is it to change gearbox oil? Any help would be great thanks :y:

well your 2nd gear synchro could be worn so a slower transition into 2nd would help as the gear and engine have time to match up. other than that theres nothing you can do apart from get a new 2nd gear for replacement. oil may help but it wont do anything in terms of repair.

Mines doing exactly the same at the minute and as the guy above said its your synchro. Mine wont go in to second at all when its cold without crunching, when everything gets upto temperature though it gets slightly easier.
I would swap the oil, the gearbox plug is magnetic when you remove it have a look if there is much filings on the end as this will indicate how worn the box is.
