Hi All,

After 2 and a half years of loyal service from my 1999 Saxo Westcoast with only the odd repair to be made along the way, it's all now going wrong at once :( ! So, I am seeking the advice of my fellow Sax-Pers, some of whom I'm sure have experienced the same problems:

1. Clutch - I only had a new clutch fitted about a year ago and its already slipping again! God only knows how I've managed to wear it down so quickly. Anyway, can anyone recommend a good heavy-duty clutch that's going to last me a bit longer than my current one?!

2. Exhaust - This isn't so much of an issue, because I just have a bog-standard exhaust so I'll just take it to ATS and get it replaced, but just for the record the middle part of my exhaust is on its last legs - just to add to my misery!!

3. Brakes - My Westcoast has drum brakes on the rear, which have decided that they don't want to stick any more. My Uncle is an experienced mechanic and has tried long and hard with various different ways (some of those methods involving a big hammer) of trying to get them to work but to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem?

On the subject of the brakes, I'm thinking of giving up on the drum brakes all together and getting disc brakes on the rear. My knowledge of mechanics is very basic, therefore the questions that I'm about to ask may seem ridiculous - however, I need to ask them or I'll never know the answers!! Firstly, can you just remove drum brakes and replace them with discs or would I need to have a whole new rear axle fitted? Secondly, if I did need to have a new rear axle, how much of a major job would it be to fit?

Sorry for the essay, but thanks for reading if you've got this far! All help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers peeps :y:

get a valeo one, they seem to be as good as any other.

2. Exhaust - This isn't so much of an issue, because I just have a bog-standard exhaust so I'll just take it to ATS and get it replaced, but just for the record the middle part of my exhaust is on its last legs - just to add to my misery!!

you can get a supersrint center only section, stainless stell will probably out live the car itself!

i take it the shoes have enough material, also check the wheel cylinder for leaking.

to convert to rear disks a whole beam from a vt series would be needed (iam not sure if furios have rear discs, iirc they do).
this job i would take to a garage unless you was very experienced with cars.

you answered your own question. Get rid of drums and get discs

you dont need to get rid of the drums. whatever has gone wrong with them will be able to be fixed.

i wouldnt worry too much about the drums anyway. the front breaks do most of the breaking.

You dont necessarily need rear discs. I believe it's quite a big job as you would have to replace the rear axle with one off a VTR/S.
Clutch wise i'm not sure. Thats something i may be looking into later this year.
As for the exhaust, as someone said, get a stainless section. I dont think the cat will be in that section (may be wrong) so by putting a stainless one in you could have a straight through pipe without any silencers if you fancy it?

You could get some new drums for the scrappy?

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how much roughly would you be looking at for a new rear beam to be fitted at a garage, as I'm thinking of getting it done.
