Was just thinking about this as i'm debating over the two due to my mate having an MG, His car seems quite nippy however how does it compare to a 106 Quiksilver? I realise the Quiky is an 8v, ZR 16 valver. Anybody know whats the better car overall for power and handling? Cheers Discuss.

The 1.4 Zr's are 105bhp iirc, pretty nippy.

for sheer looks alone the mg zr, they look great in blue and yellow. I think im right in saying that the mg is twin cam, tho i alslo remember that they have a habiat of burning oil, so u just need to keep an eye on the levels

MG have usually been thrashed and their head gaskets go for fun. 3 of my mates have had one and its happened to all of them. To stop it i think you hav to change the coolant every 300 miles or somethin stupid like that. Go for the 106. They look awesome lowered

Yeah the zr is twin cam :( .. Didn't realise they are 105bhp though! Mind you they are the same insurance as a vtr so not going to be slow. Here's the 106 i had in mind not far from me :y:

Headgasket problems are because of ROVER, i had a rover 214, k series engine, think thats whats used in mg, tho not sure, had 104,000 on the clock, i thrashed that for 1 year and it never had issues with the headgasket

I should imagine a ZR would be quicker in a straight line. Nothing to brag about though.

Mates got some form of standard sports exhaust (Could be backbox) Sounds shockingly shit inside the car but outside sounds not bad, Probs not as nice as a pugsport :p

lol i had a zr last year, had it for over 20k miles and never had 1 problem. if theyre looked after, fluids checked and not thrashed from cold they should be ok. in all fairness i think they get slated for reliability alot more than they should due to people abusing them! pretty nippy for a 1.4. in a straight line it would keep up my mates mk1 vtr. through twistys might be a diff story but iv never driven a quicksilver so cant really comment.

Cheers Stupo and Crunk! I'm not a man for a 1.4 but it looks a very nice clean example and is near to me, Could possibly fork out 5k for a 172 but i'm only 18 so insurance would be daft. Thinking either that Quiky next weekend or pick up a tidy VTR :y:

the zr will win in a sraight line but round a twisty track the quicksilver would have a far better chance

For sure, doesn't look like its been thrashed. Would be interested to hear the pugsport on a 1.4 8v over the Gti. Probs wouldnt pop and bang half as much :(

Theyre quick and they handle pretty well the MGs. I just hate the way they look. If you get a facelift model you wont have HG issues
