Hi guys,

I was just after some advice and opinions etc. I am 99% certain to be moving to Gran Canaria at the beginning of January, with my dad not on my own like. My auntie lives there at the moment and has for about 10 years, she loves it. We are going for a minimum of 12months at first, to see if it's for us and that. i've been weighing up the pro's and cons, and the pro's FAR outweigh the cons. I have a shitty job here that i hate, the state the country is in is gay, and the weather is shit. i know at first it's gunna be difficult but i'm not afraid of hard work and will turn my hand to anything like, i SHOULD get a job easy when we get there in a bar or whatever and i'll have about 3k in my back pocket in case i don't so i'll be set for a few months.
Anyway, you're probably asleep now and if you're not please give me some opinions, am i being stupid? should i stay at home, stick with what i know etc? i know you think this is a bit wierd asking people i don't know but i feel you lot will give an unbiased viewsmileys/smiley4.gif

Apologies for length, girth etc.
Jon

Do you have anything to keep you here ?

Personally I would say go for it...you only live once and as above, you will only regret if you dont.

At the end of the day, nothing is permanent. You can always move back if it wasn'r right....

Just my 2p worth

my thoughts exactly, even though ill probably suffer a massive drop in wages, it's cheaper to live there, and i'll have a few quid spare.
Excited nowsmileys/smiley4.gif

Jon, I'm on the same boat as you at the moment but I have already put the ball roling! If it doesn't work out too well I always have the chance of comming back and for this case so will you my friend!

Try it, you never know unless you risk it....... Just think about it and get plans as you need some back if you have to come back, but otherwise it will be mint!

if i had the money i'd be off to australia like a shot but at the mo i've got no cash n a loan to pay off so looks like i'll be stcuk here for a few more years smileys/smiley19.gif

as a few people have already said mate, you only live once.

go out there, see what you think and then take it from there.

you see a lot of these 'location, location' programs that once these families have or are trying to settle, then they just miss their family and therefore return home. but you wont know until you have been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

but i know loads of people who say... i want to go and live abroad for a bit. get a bar job. earn some money, etc... these things are not often that simple. younger people go out there to walk into any job but that is not the case. sometimes you can be lucky but in your case, as you already have family and contacts over there, i cant see why you would find it that difficult in finding work.

but before you go, make sure you have cleared your existing debts. i.e. you owe me £15 and you owe oz £5 or £10! smileys/smiley7.gif

go for it, i would love to do that, my uncle has done it and he just come and goes as he pleases, he owns his own night club in banbury so he dont need to get another job which is lucky.

Remember to apply for your work permit otherwise you wont be able to do anythink.
