Hey guys, was thinking about using the guide on these forums to paint my VTR alloys black? how do you think they'd look on my desire? Or is there a colour you think would look better??
Cheers
Mike.

Yeah just goto your nearest halfords and get a can of each... Grey Primer, Black Paint, Clear Lacuer... Should cost you around £20. Not sure whether that would do all 4 wheels though, you may need to buy some more cans.

fair enough if you like them i think you'll need more paint than that tbh...

you will need about 4 cans of each really. could get away with only 2 cans of laquer. and dont forget your sand paper, 240 through to 1500 grit :y:

Try to get them back to bare metal, use nitromors and some wet and dry, when its mostly off get some panel whipes from halfrauds and clean them up, mask round the tyre and use acid etch primer, give it a light dusting and allow 15 mins to dry, then another light coat, and if you feel it nessacery then give it a 3rd, allow arround a hour to dry then use the prefered colour and give it light, evan coats allowing 15 mins between coats. Then allow to dry over night. Panel whipes again give them a qucik whipe and give a few even coats of laquer then leave in a warm place over night to harden.
the finish is all about prep work before, allow the paint to dry before removing masking tape and dont get impatient or the paint finish wont be as good quality. I reccomend panel whipes as i said about the prep.

Local motor factors, or if your desperate halfrauds
Few things what you may consider using -
Panel whipes - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_17 6921_langId_-1_categoryId_165495
Nitromors - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_18 1000_langId_-1_categoryId_165495
Halfords zinc primer (simlar to acid etch) - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_17 3576_langId_-1_categoryId_165495
Lacquer - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_20 3865_langId_-1_categoryId_165495
or you can get some better acid etch if you have the money - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-PAINT-PRIMER-U-Pol-ACID-8-SELF-ETCH-PRIMER-450ml_W0QQitemZ180307946762QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_B ody_Shop_Supplies_Paint?hash=item180307946762&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318
The halfords zinc primer is good enough providing you get all the old paint off and make sure the surface is spotless before you start and build up light even layers as said, you can do a light dust coat and then give it a nice wet coat but it can end up with runs in it if you apply it too thick so i reccomend nice even light coats to achive best results. Let it harden properly, then you will have a durable finish and it wont be flaking off in a few months.

if you going to keep the lexarse lights id follow the theme and get yourself some 17" Ripspeed alloys
if not then white or black is the general theme
i think black in the new white for blue cars
personal choice
or maybe something contrasting and different
yellow been done :P ? or that left for the calipers?

black looks shit imo cos it always seems to make the tyres look brown
anthracite / gun metal looks better than black however, i do prefer white on posi blues. looks more cleaner
