Not my car but it is a Saxo (first) - when its cold the battery light will flicker on and if you give it some more beans it will start to die nd sometimes stall.

Thinking the alternator is not giving enough charge does this sound right and is there a check you can do yourself?

Get a voltmeter - alternator should be giving out about 14v - also check the voltage across the battery with the car off. Should be 12v - then should be 13v with car on.

Might want to check resistance across the wire from alternator to +'ve on battery. Cnt remeber a figure but shouldn't be a lot. This wire goes via the startermotor.
