As stated if it's not a cowboy thats a fairly decent price, make sure you get a warranty as rembo stated. If he's got nothing to worry about then he'll know a head shouldn't go for at least another 70k unless ragged from cold everyday.
Take it easy when the work is completed driving around. I think you're not supposed to go over 4000rpm for at least 500miles... alot of people make the silly mistake of going over 4000rpm and destroying the head.

yea definatly make sure u drive the car easy for a couple of hundred miles, the guy who had my car before i bought it got the head re-done and must have been driving it hard, or more than likely s**tty and cracked the cylinder head!!!

i was going to merely enquire whether he would take it upon himself to do it if he was comfortable enough to save some money. ok?

Which Garage? If its a certain one nr Birmingham then I honestly wouldn't go near him. Currently taking one mechanic to court, case is with solicitors and trading standards are also involved. If you want to PM me the garage's name I will tell you if its the same one.

Thats expensive, £280 is about right if it includes oil, filter and new anti freeze and a head skim. you don't have to take it easy after head gasket has been replaced theres no new parts to be run in. An engine should never be reved high when cold.
