Right

My Gearbox in my VTR doesn't sound right.

It changes fine(ish) but 1st 2nd and sometimes third seem clunky.

by this I mean when i change gear and lift my foot up off the clutch theres a little clunk, this can be curred by a blip of the throttle when changing is this normal to have small clunks specially changing from 1st to 2nd?

its got 59000 on the clock if thats any help

I too am experiencing a similar problem of late.

I find when getting to the biting point with the clutch and mainly in gears 1, 2 and reverse when i lift off the clutch completley it goes into gear with all i can describe it as, Well, a bit of a clunk :n:

Its becoming more noticable, mainly because i find myself listening out for it now but i was wondering if anybody knows as to what the problem could be?

It doesnt sound like a bad clunk, It just sounds like something tapping something else under the car.

Is there anything that could be getting hit by say the gear linkages or clutch under the car??

Fyi cars a 03 vts on around 53000k.

Cheers,

marv.

i take it everyone is taking into account its cold outside and takes alot longer for the gearbox oil to warm up?

yeah i have that prob but i know as a fact its because of the cold and as chris said the gearbox oil has not warmed propely, may be a point to think about for all

have you checked the engine and g/box mounts might be worn causing the box and engine to move!!

or a driveshaft worn and taking up drive its clunking,

Gearbox oil temp shouldn't make a massive difference unless its the wrong grade of oil.

Ive recently bought my 1st Vtr and ive got the same problem, just kind of a slack clunking sound when i release my clutch pedal. But now i think my driveshaft is knackerd coz its making a eak-eak-eak sound most of the time when im driving around, and the noise is getting faster obv when i go faster, but when i turn the wheel it stops.

dan-dan do u reckon it could well be just my driveshafts worn then?

Car is off into garage for a cambelt change, alternator belt and wheels balancing and wanted him to have a look at both these problems i have now. But if i jus get him to replace my driveshafts with new ones, and check my engine and gearbox mounts then fingers crossed it might stop thank clunk aswell as the most embarassing sound going!

Ry_Vtr if its going to a garage they should be able to tell you fairly easily if its a driveshaft there will be a lot of play in the cv joint

Having done some extensive research... (driving with windows down and no music lol) i've realised the noise happens when going over bumps e.c.t too. So somethings loose under there, Just got to find what it is.
