Is there something new I've missed?

Porsche has had a very close relationship with VW for a long long time.

Won't make a difference at all imo.

just dont want the cars becoming homogeneous.

Porsche have said they arent interested in the competitors of the 911 i.e the r8.

They didnt become the most profitable car maker for no reason, i think the effort/investment in the audi RS and r8 range will take a hit. I hope not though.

It's Porsche buying up more of VW, not the other way around.

VAG drivers will be having a field day I reckon. Once they have their planned 75%, Porsche will almost have total control over VW. This merger will create a super-giant German car firm which will make them quite a force to be reckoned with.

Just as long as I don't find Polo floormats in my future GT2 then thats fine by me. ;)

i just think a more competitive market is best for the customers.

You only need 51% of a company to have legal "total control".
Really It looks like they just want the control but with VW being able to sit doing their own thing at the same time and just reporting back.

In theory yes, but in reality the other shares would still be too big to allow Porsche complete dominance.

75%+ is the key figure Porsche is after, because this will allow them to acquire the so-called 'domination contract' giving it full financial control.

I didn't know Porsche were that powerful tbf, I've always thought VAG is a much bigger organisation and aren't owned by anyone else.

VAG = VW, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Bugatti. plus a few other uncommon brands iirc

I just hope porsche designers dont get a hand in designing other cars. They have trouble designing good looking porsches so they best not ruin the rest.
