MG ZR is a good car.
Basically a Rover 25 underneath and they dont have a track record for blowing up and falling apart.

The ZR is basically a tune up and a bodykit.
You'll love it.

Like them a lot.

I'd get a facelift version, which are on the '54 plate and above as the head gaskets had trouble on models previous to this. Andy on here has one, he upgraded from a VTR and he really likes it - it's 1.4 105 16v which is quite fast for what it is and looks really nice.

This is Andys when I took pictures of it a few months ago.

Yes, headgasket's are a very common problem. It shouldn't be too hard to find one that's already had the Headgasket done, most people put the stronger Lardrover Headgaskets in when they change them. So i'd look for one that's already been done :y:

Apart from that they're great little cars, and so far (touch wood) my bro's has been a damn sight more reliable than my Saxo ever was!! :p

My bro's 1.4 105.......

a Klinger (i think thats the name) triple layer head gasket solves any probs. They dont blow up that much only when people use tap water and cheap coolent instead of the rover recomended coolent and/or de iornised water.

Surely fitting a different head gasket is jsut as expensive as replacing a broken one?

iirc, a landrover headgasket and bolts will do this job?

depends if the engine has fucked up from the gasket going...

If your just renewing the old one then it would cost the same, if you need a new engine then obviously not.

Mg's arent the best built cars just like saxos and you can either get a good one, or a shit one, personally i dont like any rovers or mg's as i work on cars all day. As people say head gaskets go every 10k you cant put a milage on a HG its something that will last or go, there un-predicatable and allways have a cause for them to go, all the gaskets supplied now are the uprated ones to cure the problem. Upto you mate there not the fastest thing for the money.

buy a rover
cheaper insurance with basically the same power

i got quoted on my friends 1.4 ZR and was something like £2000 FC
got quoted on my 1.4 200 and was £1250 FC

only difference was the ZR had the 17" ZS alloys and is something like 2BHP more

and the head gasket problem...not a factor if you look after the thing
well looked after/ regularly serviced 2000 (Y reg) Rover 25 GTi (owned since new)
only problem was a smashed window from drunk chavs about 2 years ago
