Thats right! I've just bought a 1.4 Polo with 98k miles on the clock!
It has some issues, but im willing to spend the time on it to make revamp it.
I payed 150 quid for it. Really impressed with it, I will be picking it up on tuesday.

Sounds like a bargain, but does it run ok? Are these 'issues' particularly expensive ones?

Congrats on your new whip though :)

Sort the rust out, clean it up big time, sell it! Would love to keep it, but I don't want to sell my saxo! :y:

Revamping cant mean re-spraying.
Its £150. The paint would be more than the car.

Run around im guessing...

Will fall apart within the month.

Dont plan on retiring with your profit from it......

Depends how much MOT and Tax it has on it. Do what you can with it, dont spend too much on it.

Mot and tax 3 months, last MOT it had 400 quid spent on it replacing things so I don't expect there to be much of a problem this time round. Going to take it for a pre-mot though.

If your planning on selling it mate spend the least possible on it therefore maximising your profit, good luck with it

Darlo-paul
11th January 2009, 23:17
Well I thought it'd look more appealing to buyers if it was rust free so i'll atleast have a stab at that.

Keep the rust, go for a proper rat look. Be different, not many people/if anyone on here has a rat look car. Not purposly anyway. If done properly it looks awesome.

Not meaning to be a cunt mate but be careful with this, my mate bought what looked like a very well looked after 1.0 of this shape for over a grand. Didnt have any dodgy noises or anything. Within a few months there was coolant pouring out of every hole it could find, the brake cyclinders were shagged, all shocks were fucked, wheelbearings were going, exhuast was rusting away, shell was rusting away, cat was shagged, diff was on its way out lol. Was fooked

Personally I'd just get it cleaned up and bung it up at £400. You're on a low risk with it at the moment as it only owes you £150.

Sorting the rust could be expensive, though if its just surface corrosion some rust killer and a bit of a spray could do it. A cheap (very cheap) bodyshop is your friend there.

Check oil, coolant etc, keep ti together.

No point in even thinking of breaking it, it's a basic Polo, there are sod all parts worth breaking!

Darlo-paul
12th January 2009, 21:10
So get rid of the rust, keep it clean, service it and ask for 400/500?

Mrk1
12th January 2009, 21:53
Check out the damage/rust and weigh up whether its worth sorting out. If you push the rust and the whole panel falls out then you're proper fucked!

Just don't go mad trying to make it perfect, you'll never make profit on it if you do!
