View Full Version : Keeping ABS But Running Bias Valve Along Side EBD

Would i be able to run a Bias Valve for the rear although i have EBD?
I understand that the 3 plugs have this, i dont have the bias valve that sits on the axle.
Got 4pots and it nose dives a bit so could do with some more braking on the rear.
Had a search around and looks like you can get the bias valve with the 2 inlets and outs lets.

Just did a quick search i can place the bias valve from the master cylinder before it hits the abs unit.
Which would work.
But not too sure if the EBD would over power it?

P.S if you do it that way, you put the valve on the front line, and tone down the front braking as apose to the rears.
Cant see why it wouldnt work but still unsude on the EBD???

Steve, I'll be taking my car to a garage in a few weeks time, where they'll be taking out all my ABS parts, re-doing the brake lines, and installing a bias valve. We've discussed it in depth, and it's looking good. The EBD is a shit, and I would get it out if I were you. Causing me no end of hassle, as it's always trying to alter the braking force for the worst.
In theory, the bias valve won't work in conjuction with the EBD, but I need to know more about how the EBD actually works before I could say for certain.

Yeah i was thinking the same, but leaving it in so far as not sure if al be keeping the car forever.
All the bias valve would do on the front, is reduce the pressure, giving max pressure to teh rear still, so in theory the rears should kick in harsher than before.
But with the EBD am not sure if it would work.
Can you not disable the EBD? i.e a fuse or something?
or disconnect it? but then you would be disconnecting your ABS sensors aswel i guess.
You would think with the EBD it would do its job and send more braking to the rear.
Suppose a fucked ABS sensor may not be helping? As i would gather they would need to be working to alter the EBD?
*note please people dont start posting "just take your abs out* as thats not the point of the thread.
I already know i can take it out but wanted to try this first.
Also on another note where is cheapest to buy brake line from?

Just done some reading, as i thought it would help if my ABS sensors worked lol
It uses them to calculate the speed and alter the pressure that is send through the brake lines.
Still need to find which is broke and then i will report back.

personally it all looks a bit too complex
bit too much that could easily go wrong
one of the first few things ill be doing to my track car is abs in the bin and new lines (for temporary measure i have lines off a 1.1)
then ill sort proper bias valve ect after a few months
Steve
15th January 2009, 12:52
very complex it is Alex.
as williams said in a text and i agree, cant see putting a bias valve in front of the ABS unit working tbh.
Going to sort my abs sensors.
See what happens.
All the EBD is, is an electronic replacement for the little sprint bias valve on the rear axle.
Uses a bit of software to calulate wheel speeds (using the ABS sensors) and decrease or increases pressure where ever needed.
So in theory it should decrease the pressure going to the front wheels, although i doubt it will be the case.

them things on the rear axle piss me off
both of em ive had to adjust (after lowering) have been right fuckers
imo non abs and a good bias valve is a better option (i like to keep stuf simple)

i dont have one of those shit things on the axle but at this point i wish i did lol
Yeah it would make it easier, but al see what happens when i fix my abs.
CBA to take it out if i am honest.
Wheres cheapest to get new brake line encase i ever decide to take that route.

i dunno i got mine off my old car lol
it is a right pain to remove the abs
but my motors coming out to swap to non pas and stuff straight away so ill do it all then

but we shall see what happens

just stop being a fag :P ive told you what to do.
scrap abs and ebd. get a reel of copper brake pipe, bias valve and 2 t-pieces. sorted.
thats what im doing to mine after the gearbox is in and the PAS rack is out.

That boni on ssc rekons it wouldnt get cancelled out putting a bias valve in afterwards.
I thought it would?
Shit how its only cars from 2002 onwards have them, aparantly most 2001's dont have them was only an official safety feature for cars 2002 onwards :n:

non pas isnt too bad
i had my convwerted 1.1 with no pas
my gti basically doesnt have it half the time either
i preferred the feedback on non pas it felt better imo

Interesting. My assumption was that it would be pretty tough. Gotcha about the feedback, makes sense.
AlexB
15th January 2009, 23:28
its not bad unless your stationary tbh
maybe one time when ive got my track car runinng you can give it a try
one of the first thiongs im doing is fitting a 1.1 rack to ditch all the pas stuff
Toad

im looking at either recaros (not first choice but may be free:D)
or omp pistas
i find them both prety comfy tbh
Toad
16th January 2009, 00:01
The recaro's I have are the best seats I have ever sat in. Seriously...
AlexB
16th January 2009, 00:08
best ive sat in atm are my omps in my 106
there recliners though lol
best fixed are the pistas imo
Toad
16th January 2009, 00:10
Recaro's are really light too... :)
AlexB
16th January 2009, 00:19
indeed they are lol
the pistas not a heavy weight seat though
i need light stuff to compensate for my cage lol

16th January 2009, 16:17
having a non pas rack isnt as heavy as a pas rack thats not working.
