Probably been asked a million times but....
Had a "dolphin grey" VTS mk1 a few months back that was near mint. Sold it on a few weeks after I got it due to financial reasons.
Recently been looking at getting another but it would have to be the same rare grey colour again.
The other option was a gti 6 or rallye. Owned a Dturbo and an XSI and loved the way they both drove. Interior was brilliant too for a french car.
Which do I go for? Car would be a daily driver. Would be looking at performance upgrades to both.
I know the route to go for the saxo for more power but not sure on the 306.
Which would you choose? I binned the XSI so I know from experience the 306 are a lot safer to be in but that doesn't bother me.
Thoughts?

306 GTI's have a lot more power than a VTS (167bhp), but are a lot heavier and don't hit 60 until 8.5secs. but they keep pulling all the way to 135. They are also quite old cars, and even the GTI's don't look "special" IMO, It just looks like another 306. Personally I'd go for a VTS, but It's whether you'd rather have Acceleration and good looks, or more comfort and extra safety mixed with brilliant (but not quite as good) performance. You can't really go far wrong with either :y:

Both the VTS and 306 are 0-60 in low 7s.
Love the 306, for me it's a much better car though running costs are higher. Remember, the GTI-6 was an £18k car new, most VTS were sold at around the £9k mark

If you search there are loads of threads on the same subject.
But I have owned both and its a tough choice, but I think the gti-6 would be my choice unless a lovely mk1 white vts came up :)

Of course
Mud flaps prevent the sill from getting stoned to fuck.
That Rallye was absolutely mint then and stil is, I've kept in touch with it's current owner as I'll buy it back this sumer if he decided to buy a house

id go for 306 gti i think, im trying to choose between both of these cars for when i get a new one
306 gti, is a bigger, better car and hasnt got such a chavy image as the saxo
Most come with half leather, hit 60 slower but hit 100 quicker and handle well, so ive heard
with a few mods it'll be quicker to 60 than a vts and to 100!
on the downside they are more to buy and run and most have high mileage....

In the real world you'll find the speed of the two are quite evenly matched.

dave, that black rallye is gorgeous. really like it.
like ive said dozens of times... people dont realise just how good the gti 6/rallye is in the right hands. a much much better all round car than the vts/gti

Lots of valid points.
I like the idea of the gti as it would be a real sleeper, and standard they are thought to be faster than the vts as well as a far better place to sit in.
Only problem is I feel I will enjoy the 306 more than the st200 making it redundant.
Keep the comments coming.

Rallye has no electrics, no AC, no leather, no spec at all really.
The Rallye was just a way of making the otherwise expencive GTI-6 affordable, the GTI was about 18.k and the Rallye a snip at £15995 (a couple of years later the CTR came in at that price standard)
When I bought my Rallye they were cheaper than GTI-6. Now daysw the Rallye is more expencive as it's rarer, though I don't really get why.
If I had another I'd love a mint ph1

Worth a go. Probably worth a grand so you weren't over pricing it

had alot of interest in it. might just drop it to about 800 or 700 cause the clutch is stiff. think it needs a cable. and want to go see about another vts on sat aswell

I noticed it too, but dont see why it wont fetch it.
Clutches are stiff on most 306s.

GTI6 over a VTS anyday, much nicer :)
Get a '6' and not a rallye, same car, same engine but the '6' has luxuries and do you really want to wind your windows down al the time? lol
