Just been under the bonnet of the car and want to clean up the engine bay a bit.
There's a bit at the front of the engine which has crap stuck all over it. I just tried giving it a proper scrub just near the top with water and one of those 2 sided sponge things, but it barely moved any of it. Its blackish stuff properly stuck on.
Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions what I could clean it with. I've read quite a few threads about cleaning the engine, but wondered if there was anything decent and cheap that would be good for doing that bit, before I do the rest of the engine too..
I've attached a photo of the bit I mean..

Follow the wire and you'll find the green plug for the lambda sensor. Unplug it and take the 4 bolts off and you'll be able to lift the cover off.
Because it's only mild steel, you'll struggle to polish it and it'll look crap again after a while. I got mine powdercoated - was told the stuff was heat resistant too... looked good. :)

As above sand and paint or buy a new one.
To clean your engine without spending lots of money buy and APC (all purpose cleaner) from the supermarket. I recommend either daisy from Tesco's or Stardrop from Asda.
Mix it in a spray bottle at a 4:1 mixture, spray on the bits you want to clean, leave it for a few minutes to loosen of the muck, then use and old micro fibre cloth and wipe the muck off.
Then use and plastics dresser to dress your plastics:y:
Hope it helps
