Hey all , I just bought my daughter a 2nd hand 02 plate saxo a few days ago , great little car to look at and also drive but I have noticed thetemp gauge is going up and the red light is coming on . When i checked under the bonnet i noticed two things , there is a slight leak in the radiator and also the cooling fan does not come on . I understand the radiator will need replaced , thats a no brainer , but not sure about the cooling fan , can anyone recommend how i can check this out before taking it to the garage . I know very little about cars :)

Could be a faulty thermostat mate.

Possibly a fuse F3/F5 in the engine bay compartment.

If that dosent solve it, possibly the relay, or maybe a new motor. I had to replace my Fan unit as it burnt out, from a small peice of metal that wedged between the rad and fan.

Ill check the fuses too :) .. The fan on the car to be honest looks brand new , Im wondering if the person who has fitted this has screwed it up or not connected it properly :S .. any tips on how to check this out also or should i just take it to the garage ?

hi what engine is it. the thermostat should be in a housing on the front near side of car there is a pipe going to it from the rad.
if u take it out and get a red hot bowl of water and put it in. it will move the spring in side.
