"Full" service or just in terms of oil + filter? I've been getting that changed every 5k. Check out the condition of the oil - has it darkened @10k?
I do my air filter, sparks, and renew the other fluids once a year. Though you can't go wrong following the frequency & list in the service manual.

Deffo get that timing belt done asap mate! While it's all stripped out get the water pump done for an extra £30 or so. Water pump is driven by the timing belt (crazy idea) and can get full of gunk, the bearings fail and your engine goes pop!
I'd do the belt in preference to the service. Oil change etc you can perhaps do?
