Floor in driver's footwell?

Hey,
Is is just my motor, or is the footwell-floor in most folks saxos kinda uneven and wonky? I had the carpet up to have a look and the padding is in place, but there's a large part of the shell pokes up diagonally through? It's obviously meant to be like that as its part of the floor panel, just gets on my nerves with my big feet once in a while! :) Should the padding conceal this better?

If you are on the drivers side is it the the left of where your feet are?
If so then I think I may know what you are on about. My VTS has got a metal bit, almost like a step, but my VTR didn't. If this isn't it then I am not sure what you're about sorry mate.

Yes, like a ridge. Should the padding under the carpet stop it sticking out so much? Its part of the shell, just a bit annoying the way its worn the mat and feels odd under foot!
