My brother has got a 205 gti for track use and now has £6000 max to spend on a car to use daily and tow the 205.
Few requirements.
Able to tow a 205 on a brian james twin axle
Big enough to fit a few spares, tyres and tools in the back, ideally an estate or truck.
Leather and aircon
Fairly nippy and enjoyable to drive.
Prefers manual trans but is flexible
Prefers petrol cars but is flexible
Hes 26 so insurance isnt a big deal
Ive come up with a BMW 330i SE touring, l200 truck, a4 avant, s4 estate ;), Volvo V50/70, Vauxhall omega elite estate, vw passat highline and then i got bored.
Any suggestions?

Thing is, he still does 40+ miles a day with work and often takes out his missus and mates and wants something that he can use everyday and enjoy, AND tow the pug to tracks with all the crap in the back

if it is for towing purposes one of these!!!
slightly over budget but it is petrol (it will guzzle it)
but will be a reliable well capable towing machine!! and quite fast when not towing

Can pick up very high spec Range Rover p38's for about 4-5k you can fit so much in the back of one we've moved house using one! The only down side is the MPG on the V8 we can avarage only 17.5 MPG.

True, and hes been a ford man for the last 9 years so it should be right up his street.
I just need to find a track car to compete now

Dont forget to consider weight limits. Whats the maximum the trailer can carry legally? Our Fourtrak struggles with 2 tonnes at times.

Can pick up a decent Mondeo ST TDCi for a little over 6k. With a bit of haggling you should be able to get below that.
Have you already budgeted for towing equipment and a trailor? If not there is £2k for a decent set up"

Escort Cosworth.
I shit you not, at Cadwell, there was someone using one to tow a Porsche 924 on a trailer.
Seriously though, id say something like an L200, or something with plenty of room in the back so you can carry spares with ya. :)

Well he bought the Mondeo, its a ST TDCi, 2005 with 45k on the clock, full ford history, 1 owner. Leather, air con the lot. Got a dyno chart showing 179bhp from a "superchips" place which is a bit random. Paid what the garage owner gave for it in part-ex, i.e. not a great deal. Helps having family friends in the business

About trade price, similar to the amount they go through at auction, minus fees.
