What are your opinions on spacers, how many of you actually run alloys that require them?
I've always stuck to alloys that are a direct fit - a close friend of my dads ended up dying in a car crash after a horror story involving spacers and its kinda always put me off (no wonder really)...
However i have seen some very good value alloys available but they are ET38 which as far as i'm aware requires 20mm spacers?
Are there any specific types of spacers which are better? Or do i basically have nothing to worry about regarding using them?
If anyone knows anywhere i can get some good value 20mm spacers from too that would help - but i'm really not sure about getting them yet! I've seen a set on ebay including the extended wheel bolts for £50 including postage which seemed an okay price,
Cheers

I'm running H&R Trak spacers (25mm). Originally as had Brembo 4 pots under VTS alloys.
The only spacers to buy, they bolt to to the hub, then the wheel bolts to the spacer. Ive near had any issues with running these, no excessive wear on tyres etc.
www.europerformance.co.uk stock them. Take a few weeks get to you as they're specially made for you.

only problem with those mate is they're like 90-100 quid a pair
basically adding 150-200 quid onto the price of the wheels , and it totally defeats the object of saving me money!

you really want hubcentric spacers, but if they were too much I would purchase a stud and nut kit and ditch the wheelbolts, then use a cheaper spacer.
Not ideal, but if needs must....

Kev, I brought a conversion kit from Demon Tweeks to run 20mm spacers, the kit cost me £50, and the spacer £40 (H&R), worked out to be the same price as the hubcentrics that bolt to the hub, and they are dodgy as hell. When you tighten the wheel up, instead of the nut spinning, the whole thread spins into the metal bit behind the caliper and the wheels were forever loose.
Never again.
If you want spacers you have to do it properly.....

I've just got some 20mm hubcentric spacers, they bolt to the orginal hubs first, and have their own threads for the actual wheel bolts. This way avoids dodgy long wheel bolts, as I can use the normal bolts

i bought some 15mm spacers to run my nimrods and had to get some bolts made for them, in total they cost me £120ish iirc but never had any problems.
what rims are they Alex? if they are something special then go for it but if not then is it worth the effort?
as long as you have the correct spacers (hubcentric's) and the correct bolt (length and head wether it be taperd, flat, etc...) the you should be fine
