Its just a buffer tbh
It wont remove swirls if thats what your wanting to know its just for to remove the polish resedue and buff to a shine, still need to use your hand to buff it up as machine doesnt get into everywhere, i hand buff after using my porter cable anyway

Whats the difference between a buffer and a polish machine thought it was same thing.
Ok so im looking for a decent/cheap polish machine to get swirls out
What do you reccomend?
Thanks x

Well there not cheap, a buffer does what it says, buffs things ie polish off and paint to a shine but wont get rid of swirls etc, the machine doesnt spin fast enough to do it
A polisher machine will cost a good 150 pound for new ones, although you could have a look on detailing world or ebay for second hand units
There are rotary machines but not as safe as the proper machines due to them not being random orbital/dual action ones and arent ideal for beginners
Then you need a host of polishing pads and polishes etc can be costly i think ive spent a good 250 onwards on mine, but mine needed a transformer being bought from usa
There are machines in uk now
Meguiars Machine
Kestrel DAS-6
USA unless you can get one second hand or there are new ones on ebay
Porter cable 7424 (which i have)
The best stuff for hand polishing is meguiars 3 step kit, check this thread for results, still wont get rid of all of them but id say will give you about 60% paint correction depending on how bad paintwork is

I'd only use a machine polish if you are confident, have the right products and know exactly what you are doing.
You can do alot of damage to the paint work if you mess things up.

A DA (dual action) like the Porter cable, megs g220 & kestrel are very similar (I have a porter cable) and would be hard to damage the paint with one easily unless used on one spot for a considerable amount of time, but still possible.
Also if its for a one off thing, get a detailer to do it or if someone off here is close ask them.

Did my post get removed?:S
Get onto detailing world and look at the guides section there is a great one on how to use a dual action.

Ive got a meguiars g220 polishing machine. Used it quite a lot now and im very pleased with it.
Have a look on www.cleanyourcar.co.uk. This is where i get my products from and they are a brilliant company, they give you lots of advise and delivery is very quick.

I too have the Kestral. Only used it once mind due to the bad weather but it pretty much removed all the scratches on the paint work and it looks much much better now. Once the weather gets better I am going to go over it again to finish it off and get it looking as smooth as possible.
I would highly recommend a DA polisher. It is difficult to go wrong with it.

People who first started with a DA either Kestrel or G220 which pad did you start with?
Don't want to go too hardcore first time round so was just going to use the polish pad instead of the cutting pad? Good decision?

Well yeah, I suppose. I just have images of some people using it without pads. :)
But yeah, if you apply to much pressure it stops spinning on the paint work. That Meguiars video on YouTube showed the bloke holding it on the paint work for about 40-50 seconds in the same spot and it barely got warm. You can't go wrong. ;)
I have this (http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Kestrel_DAS-6_Meguairs_kit_1.html) pack and started with using the Polishing Pad [W8006] with the Cleaner Polish #83. Once that was done I used the Finishing Pad [W9006] with the Speed Glaze #80.
Overall it gave a good finish but I wish I used the Cutting Pad [W7006] instead of the Polishing Pad as the paint work on my car had heavy swirling on.

I've bought exactly the same kit as you.
I was planning on using the same procedure first with #83 on the Polishing Pad and then 80# on the Finishing Pad.
Swirl marks aren't too bad on my car but i'll give it a go with the Polishing Pad first and then reasses if I need to use the Cutting Pad and a more aggresive polish. I've also bought Chemical Guys Scratch + Swirl BGone if #83 can't do the trick.
What colour are you working on?

try with 80 and 83 on polishing first, then 80 and 83 on a cutting.
if i bought again id have a makitta, and practive on some scrap panels

Black mate, looks much better then before I started though. Looking forward to the warm weather so I can get out then and give it a real clean.
