Lol mate this is definaltly the wrong section..Care car and detailing???:fcuk:
And im not sure about 'yellow gunk' on the cap. Normally if there seems to be water on the cap is a sign of head gasket gone

Well i personally would get a quicksliver or a focus.. Lol cus thats what i want. But im not sure which one. I like the drive of the saxo and i like the looks of the gti so the quicksliver is the one. But ive spent tonight in my mates new punto and it feels more comfortable and safer and on the whole feels like a nicer car so im in 2 minds...

Go to a a garage and ask them to perform a sniff test :y:

does it cost anything?

Not sure mate it shouldnt cost much, basically its a blue liguid and they put it in the water whilst car is running, if it detects gases in water it will change to yellow indicating the head gasket is buggered or head is warped, there is another way and thats a comprssion test, basically a dial and tube, take spak plug out and out that in, to test each chamber, crank the engine over by hand and it will compress air in there to give a reading,it should be around the same on all of them, am not sure of the readings they should be for a rover but they should know if they have the right books etc

If its just a small amount of sludge around the cap chances are its just condensation in the oil - this is common especially if the car only does short runs. If thats the case just change the oil / filter and clean the breather.

Another way to find out if your headgasket has gone, take out one spark plug than start it up, headgasket went on my dads rover 400 a year back so out the spark plug tryed to start up and water shot out :panic:

i used to have a rover 216 coupe with the honda engine and i loved it but its very hard to find one that hasnt done a million miles or been looked after, mine had a lot of miles but i looked after it but the engine died so i sold it, i still miss too, but i really love my vtr.

That Yellow coloured sludge is just oil mixing with moisture. it can indicate the beginning of the head gasket going. but more than likely it's just built up due to short journeys my VTR has it to, all under the oil filler cap. I changed my breather hose the other day and it was full of the stuff! I double checked with the master tech at work he said its just condensation not the head gasket. Hope this helps! =]
