if i change my dials will my mileage of my car apear on my new ones (which would mean the ecu stores my mileage then adds it to the new dials)or will it be the mileage off the other car(meaning mileage is stored on each set of dials)

milage is stored in the ecu mate. when you disconnect the battery and hook it back up the mileage is the same so your safe :y:

nobother mate. what are you changing the dials to out of interest?

Who's told you that the milage is stored in the ecu...?

Isn't milage stored in the clocks on the digital ones...?

wobble_vtr
9th February 2009, 16:59
surely not? then an engine thats done 100k, and has new dials installed that read 40k? doesnt make sense to store it in the dials... although im not sure now lol

Lol. I'd like to think they're stored in the ECU... Otherwise... before going for an MOT people could just change the dials to make it look like they'be barely used it at all..... When in fact they'd run up 10,000 miles. >.<

nobother mate. what are you changing the dials to out of interest?

im not changing them im putting the led's in but doing them blue i was checkin up on this just incase i some how damage mine and need to replace them:y:but if mileage was in the clocks i was not goin to bother with them

maddison_vts

i was under the impression it was stored in the clocks. If its in the ecu though, surely if someone knew what they were doing they could change it to whatever they felt like...

silversaxo113
9th February 2009, 17:49

if you replace the dials your odomator will go to 0 you might be able to program digital ones with a diagnostic tool

if you replace the dials your odomator will go to 0 you might be able to program digital ones with a diagnostic tool

so if i take them out change the bulbs and put them back in will this keep them the same or will it go to 0 anyways?

does anybody know for sure what will happen or where the mileage is stored eiva in the clocks or on the ecu...or does anybody know anybody thats changed there dials forany reason and what happend???

apperently i herd the it stores the millage on both

so if you change it you need to buy new parts otherwise it will add up millige on the ecu and clock ????

i heard that too.... apparantly if you change the dials both amounts get added together to prvent people from altering their milege. Say if your car already has 50 thousand miles on and you add in a new dial with 54 thousand thousand miles on then your new milege will go to 104 thousand miles. don't take my word for it tho.. i may be wrong. you could do with finiding someone who has done it. if it helps i want to change the dials on mine so i can have a proper rev counter instead of a fcuckin huge clock but abit weary to do it incase my milege doubles!!!! hope this helps :)

when i took my dials out to put white dial fces on, put it back and mileage was still the same

only problem was the speedo started to stick and not move :( , so had to remove the needle again

yours are mk1 clock with the old mileage dials if you change yours there extremly easy to put your mileage onto just use a small screw driver to wind the dials on however to keep the numbers in line to make it look like no tampering has occured you have to go through in order i.e 1...2...3 and so on unless u get them from a car with less miles and then wind them on it saves a hell of a lot of time:y:

anybody changed there dials and know where the mileage is stored?? or should i take a chance and do it??:fcuk:

fcuk it we should both do it!!! i might just go ahead and do it. i should be ok because mine is a mk1 but yours maybe a bit more tricky.

nah you just get a new number so you could go from 100,000 to 50,000 or other way round but to get it to add up wiv the mot and service history u may want to get a writen document of the original mileage

silversaxo113

got some new dials today from scrappy have no idea what mileage is on them if its on them if i cock mine up whe soldering the led's on il put these ones in then il be able to see exactly where the mileage is stored:panic:

im sure if you put i different set off dials in it adds both mileage together to stop people from clocking! im guessing if you do mess up you would have to take your new dials to citroen to get them adjusted, well i done mine in blue and just take all that into consideration when your standing there with a set of tweeezers in 1 hand and a soldering iron in the other pooing yaself nowing if you dont get it spot on your in trouble lol
Good luck!
well worth doing though on a brighter note lol

mileage is stored on ECU which is the cars computor which unless unlocked is fully traceable to a certain car via codes, chassis number etc.

dont listen to any that tells you the mileage is on the clocks, its just a LED screen in which the ECU displays it on...

answers to question
1 no you cannot put mk2 clocks in mk1 or visa versa different loom
mileage is stored in clocks not on ecu and no it does not double up or anything else you may have heard
this is a fact as i used one car to check themileages on 7 sets of clocks and they all came out correct

He speaks the truth.. Pretty sure only citroen can change the milage on them but I doubt they will do it unless you buy new clocks from them which costs a fortune.

It is possible to put Mark 2 dials in the Mark 1 but like said above the Loom need changing as the connectors are different.

it will show the millage of the new dials ... i had the same .. changed mine into a VTS white ons and it showed up 20k instead of the 124k i had on my old one ..

btw this was a saxo MK2 from 2003

Lol at the fucking bullshit crap in this thread.

The last bunch of guys are correct.

To change mk2 dials to mk1 dials, and vice versa you have to also change the wiring loom.

The milage is stored in the dials, not the ecu.

And if you change your clocks your milage doesn't add up.

I can tell you that from experience, now those uneducated stop talking cods wollop!

My MK2 VTS had a dial change due to the oil temp not working, this reset the mileage back to 0. So the old milage was signed in the service book by the garage that did the job.

I can confirm that the mileage is both stored on the ECU and the Dials (mk2 only). I have personally done this so can confirm 100%

Example 1:

Car showing 50,000 original mileage
Person buys ECU with 20,000 and replaces, Dials will now show 70,000 as they are both added together unless synchronised.

Example 2:

Car shows 50,000 as standard
Person buys new clocks with 20,000 on, fits to car, clocks will now show 70,000 as ECU adds this as they are not sync'd.

END of

so if it adds them togever when i put my originals back in it will add them onagain meaning il have double what i started with just because i unplugged cloks and put them back in??

No your origional clocks will be sync'd with your origional ECU, if you plug in a new ECU to try it it will add the mileage together but put your old ecu back on and it will go back to normal as long as you dont drive lol

with you now mate ive got a spare set of dials to try incase i cock mine up but havent put new led's in yet wasnt sure what the outcome would be if i unplugged them
