Ive got a horrible ticking sound coming from my engine, when i rev the car it seems to speed up with the revs, it sounds like its coming from the carbertor (sp), i dont know if it is screwed but its annoying to hell, ive looked in the haynes manual to see how to strip it down, is it worth stripping it down & giving it a good clean hoping the ticking sound will go or do i need a new carbretor (sp)? Help please

if you have a saxo you dont have a carb its fuel injection, could be ticking injectors (you will just have to put up with this or replace the injectors, but there is not guarentee that it wont come back) or it could be tappets. Take it to a garage, if the tappets need adjusting should be no more than £20

mine makes a ticking sound mate - most noticeable when its just idling. think mine may be the shutter on the throttle body (or whatever its called) just after the air filter.
but i am taking mine to get the tappets checked soon as Ratty says, could be that simple

Try giving it an oil change and see if that sorts it as it did on mine. If not it may be the tappets needing adjusting.

I changed the oil not so long ago, i cant say wether it was there before the oil change as i cant remember, i'll get my dad to ring this lad who changed my gearbox for me, he used to be a mechanic for peugeot before they changed to skoda's, my dad said it was the carb lol.
Let us know if the ticking sound goes after you've had your tappets checked will you please al
