Do u mean when ur coming to a stop? Cus saxo's have a protective something or other lol that prevents u putting it into first until u go bellow a certain rev level!

okay, first check ur reverse, is it having the same or similar problem, cus saxo nots a lift up reverse gear box ull find that first and reverse are the first gears to go, secondly check engine noise, i.e get a mate to put it in first and listen to the engine for a strange whining. if so cud be linkage, had this with my old saxo, was a 1.1 tho, anywho ended up needing a refurbed gearbox. And lastly, shoot the ppl who serviced it, services should replace or at least top up gearbox fluid so they shud have pointed this out to you when u picked it up.

Could be a syncro fault or selector fault, check selector rods arnt bent, also they could be dry, try removing the rods and applying some copper slip grease as 1 section is known for holding water and road salt etc but id suggest taking it to a garage for oil change, they will diagnose the problem for you whilst under the car

no its only first gear, sounds like peebee could be spot on cos sometimes i do watch the revs and seems the lower the revs the easier 1st gear pops in.
rev is fine and so is all the other gears so its sounds like the sensor thingy cheers everyone

you shouldent be going down to 1st at high enough revs that it wont let you, stop then first gear if still moving then use second even if the revs are low

i think its hard to put into 1st sometimes as there is no syncromesh!
this stops you from putting it into first gear when your going fast!

Put plenty, i mean PLENTY (Half a tub) of propper Greece on the linkages and on the linkages that connect to the gear box. Smother the bastads in greece and get all round and into the joint.
Solved my problem!
(make sure you wear gloves, you'll end up getting it everywhere)
