I think the old renults look a bit tinny and lean alot in the bends. But its lowered etc. What are the mileages of the two cars? Number of owners etc. I always think when i see a car like that its been thrashed about.

my 106 is on 101k
the clio's shell is on 112k but had a new engine which was on 83k (it was a 1.4 and he put a 1.8 16v in it)

you need to ask yourself why does he wont to swap it so much if his has 83k and yours is on 101k
and why would he want to down grade:wacko:
somthing wrong there mate, id walk away

clio are good fun are are better on performance, but on exsperience with my 19 16v, it spent more time in the garage than on the road, hence why i sold it with 77k on the clock!!

there nice cars but renault's aren't reowned for their reliability. I would just give it a good going over before buying it make sure there is nothing glaringly obvious about to go wrong. or maybe consider the williams an even better upgrade :y:

Like he says, the car was originally a 1.4 but now has the 1.8 16V engine (I think the RSI was 8v). Car should be on a par with a VTS pace wise.
Personally, I wouldn't give it a second look. For one it sounds dodgy and two you can get an authentic 'valver' for peanuts. This has been messed with, probably thrashed to fook and god knows what he's hiding from you.
Unless you know someone who knows these cars I'd walk away.

i know its a bit late but still.....
the 1.8 8v clios were the rsi's running 90bhp.
then there was the 1.8 16v running 137bhp with the power band ranging from 5000rpm to 7000rpm and a rev limit of 7000rpm.
and the 2.0 16v williams running 150bhp with the power band from 2000 rpm to 6000rpm and a rev limit of 6500rpm
As above, the original valvers go for the same money as hybrids such as this, and would be more sensible, espesh if you right it off which is easy going from a 1.6 to a 1.8 which the immense power they put out.
i bought myself a clio last year and hasnt let me down once. its a williams hybrid with cams, pulleys, full race exhaust system, chipped ecu, and a rev limiter up to just short of 8k, fully stripped, for £825
running around 190bhp :y: cheapy cheapy ;)
