ok, as some of you know, i cancelled my insurance with kwik fit (Dont laugh) they other day, they said the setlement was £6**.** but it had been passed onto wetscoast ltd as it was cancelled without my knoing on the 24th dec, yes apperently i have been driving for 3 months without insurance, any way, i phoned up Westcoast to pay them and they say they havent got any details of me and i dont owe them money, so i phoned kwik fit again and they defo said no, not us, but Westcoast are saying i dont owe them either. what do i do? dont want it coming back and biting me on the arse owing someone nearly £700?
thoughts. opinions, past experiences please.
sorry for essay

Put the £700 they claim you owe into a different bank account.
Dont use it for 6 months,
If they ask you for it, you have it,
If not, you have an extra £700 6 months down the line.

lmao..
just wait out and phone them in another week or two.
i know its been a couple of month now. if you phone the old company and ask them for a contact number for the people they say you owe this cash to and get a refferance number you might have more luck. i would say dont worry about it but try and get some sort of correspondence saying you dont owe them sh*t, that could only go i your favour mate, at least you tried to do the right thing.
so balls to em all, they ripped you off for long enough.
so if you not had insurance for the last couple of month did they take dd from your account???

is this westcoast thing a debt company??? because if it is... you might not owe them anything as they could of passed it to another debt company?? debt companys are a circle if one cant find you they pass it on to another

year they are, but they said they have never had my details or any records of me and they might have been lost in transit if you get me

i agree with most, keep the money saved as back-up, no sign of any bill spend away

is it westcoast or westcott?
westcott are a very dodgy comapny IMO - wont go into details too much but they buy a debt off people, and they charge you an arm and a leg for everything, £30 for a phone call (even if you dont answer) and £50 for a letter (this is what i have been told, as a mate of mine owed a TV company about £150 and by the time he was informed about it it was over £400 - and they also like to include solicitors costs!
get confirmation mate, from both companies either way!

Sooner or later they will realise.
Just like orange did with my phone. 4 months it was in my name from (Changed from dads name into mine as i'm now 18)
Dad canceled direct debit and i told them my details of payment on my 18th.
4 months later, i'm bared.
Turns out i only own them £20, not the £100 i thought it would had been for.
Problem now resolved. If they ask for any more money, i'll tlll them where to shuv it
(They lost my details anyway, date protection act?)

right well i would do what everyones saying hold the cash....
but.... after 5 years as long as you have no contact with any debt company they have to write it off!!!!
and yeah if its westcot debt they are wankers lol!

as dannyboy said, if they dont have you on either of their systems n they have lost your details n 6 months down the line they try n get the money of you, you can shove the data protection act in their face n then they will back off. just in case though keep the money to one side, in an isa or something, BUY shares would be the best option, but risky lol.

get written conformation from both that way you can spend it straight away and if they try to pin it on you later on down the line you have there conformation you dont owe them anything

get a letter from both companys saying you don't owe them any money once you have that then you'll be fine
Untill then I'd put the money aside just incase

dont ring anyone about anything mate, it may just blow over, i owed natwest just over 1.5k and told them i couldnt pay, they said they would send someone to my house to see if this is true and i havent heard anything since for nearly 2 years
if it does come and bite you on the ass you can always pay in instalments, noone can get £700 out of you in one go
plus i think its appaling that they would cancel your insurance without any notification, i wonder if you could take any action against them for basically causing you to drive illegaly through there negligence/incompetence?
