decided i really want one of these now, think im gna opt for the tractor diesel one or the 1.6 petrol. its going to be my second car and il be 18.
what are comon faults with these cars and are they any good.
+ i can only find high mileage ones for under a 1000 which is my budget is 125k too much or is it reasonable?
was thinking, black with black 205 speedlines with yellow lip droped about 60mm all round with those weird front headlights (there like open with a little yellow circle around of the bulbs, cant explain it.
what does everybody think??

dont got for the 1.6 mate, very under powered. you'll be better going for the 1.8 or 2.0 hdi if you can afford it

1.9DTs will see over 200k if you have it maintained properly. Was my car prior to the Saxo.
Good cars, strong, reliable, and easily tuned. Does take much to get them from 90 to around 110-115 depending on what turbo / fuel pump you have.
In all fairness the 1.6 isnt a bad car, cheaper to run than a DT, higher mpg, lower insurance usually, lower fuel costs, but slower.
Sign upto pug306.net if you arent already, there is a dt with 125k being sold at the minute in Stoke for £650!

And a few others for under £1000,
£500!

Can't go wrong with a 1.9DTurbo :)

2nd March 2009, 09:10
Yeah go for an hdi, all the cool kids are doing it ;) !
Only thing, i think, bad about them is the electrics ( correct me if i'm wrong ) and as said, can get a stage one remap and a decat and that will take it from 90 bhp standard to like 120;), then go for a bigger turbo and Fmic for an even bigger grin :A:

ive had the 1.9td, 1.4 and the 1.8xs 306 and all are very good, however if i was to choose id get a 1.8 but for mpg and tuneability go for the 1.9td, very strong cars as my 1.8 was hit head on by an audi tt when i was in best, the front was destroyd and didnt seem to be any damage atall inside.

dont they have common electrical faults?
Like most French Cars tbh:panic:
de4n0
2nd March 2009, 17:44
yea but as does all french cars haha, most comon i found with mine was the wires brakeing in the door loom where it conects to the car and door. air bag light, central locking, but thats was it, very easily repairable and never costed me alot of money.

HDi's all the way boys. my mate has had his on the road the last year and hasnt had to put a spanner to it. don't buy a dturbo, the commonrail versions are much cleaner running engines. a set if 307 gti wheels and slammed looks the business!
Jorge-

Mmmm, that HDI is absolute perfection. Even more so in the flesh.

i would like a gti-6 but as il only be 18 i have no chance in affording insurance, hdi's are stil quite expensive.
ive found a nice white one on pistonheads with gti enterior 8 months mot with 120k on it for 750

cba to get a quote but does anyone think i could get insurance for a 2.0 xsi for under 2 grand wen im 18 and have years ncb with bell> tpft
Jorge-
3rd March 2009, 00:05
maybe, but fuck paying 2k.
a tuned dt, can nearly keep up, and a mapped hdi makes mincemeat of one.
dannyboycov1991
3rd March 2009, 00:20
iv only got 1k to spend though, and i want something a bit faster than what im driving now, also has to be practical, the Dturbo's and hdi's have slower 0-60 than my rover and my rover has just under a bit less than an xsi :S
look
Xsi 2.0 8v - Insurance group 12,, 0-60 - 10.1
rover 25 impression - insurance group 5 0-60 - 11.8
Dturbo - insurance group 5 0-60 - 13.3
hdi is practically the same.
is the 306 actually faster because of the turbo or not? i can understand diesels arent that quick on acceleration but does it keep up when the turbo kicks in?
Jorge-
3rd March 2009, 00:26
you need to tune them to get the power mentioned before
1.9 dts, with a stage one tune and decat see around 115bhp with 175ft lb torque. which is a lot more you will see out of any similar petrol, plus insurance is cheap.
the hdi, a remap for £120 gives you 120bhp and will see you 9-10 second 0-60s iirc.
Tontsy
3rd March 2009, 02:53
1.9 Td, end of the day its french... common faults, electrics, suspension and the other 98% of the car i cant be arsed to name lol...
but no, i had one for a while, wind up the turbo, drank my fuel, went like stink, 150k something on the clock, good service history and never let me down.
you can pick them up for under a grand, personally wouldnt pay more than 1k for one, look around the p-r reg and miage should be fairy good and still in decent nic and good histroy for that price :y: ...
