erm. from a noobs point of view...
the sky looks over exposed. so either editing it after the photo or use of filters could help out :)
nice pic though!

Also the clouds were very low lol

shoot in RAW if your on an SLR
and change the White balance so you dont look flat in the image. and the sky isnt so much over exposed, its down to metering and evals shite.
first step, camera... makes major difference... what u shooting on?

I am shooting on a Fujifilm finepix s5800
Cant afford an slr yet :(

I would suggest the position of the photograph, composition of it all. can't put my finger on it but something doesn't suit.
lower down possibly, needs more contrast too
Tontsy
3rd March 2009, 13:27
it comes down to what you think about the photo and what you think needs changing ?
there is nothing wrong with the composition of the image, if anything in that section id say the angle of shot, possible lower down.
know it or not, your working on the rule of thirds, you have lead in and lead out lines, and you have a for mid and back ground...
cant afford an slr, no worries :y: i have been in another one of your threads and said thats its a good camera to get to know basics and handling of.
just depends how serious you want to take the photography side of things, or do you jsut want to have pics of your car.
when it comes to taking photos of mine, i dont give a shit what they look like aslong as ive got a few photos of my latest mod or of a good lcation.
but when im on commision *btw im a wildlife / landscape photographer and working freelance / commision on cars * i start to get picky as fuck!

its a bastard to get work in photography, i got into car photography by going to cruises, taking photos of the cars, putting it on a flickr or photoucket and putting a card on their car sayings its been snapped.
only downside is you have to give up for half the year because the cruising scene becomes shite!
what aspect of photography do you like?

I love nature/animal photography and also very interested in getting in to motorsport photography to.
But basically I just enjoy it regardless of the subject
Tontsy
3rd March 2009, 22:36
wildlife :y: and motorsport go together so well :D for both you need good 2-400 mm lenses and wide apertures too!
the finepix, got the 300mm lens on as i remeber ? used to work in Jessops for 2 years, so got alot of experience with differnt cameras if anyone is thinking about what shizz to buy :p
but yeah the finepix should do you well, for starting again... you got photoshop?

clip on fish eye lens? haha
try using a 10-20mm lens on a full frame sensor you dippy fuck. not everyone works to a digi crop sensor.
and noisy when being shot on iso 100, yeah going to get alot of noise mate.
its simple shit that works... try it and make yourself a few bob.
it costs me about 38 p to print one of them at 10x15" and it goes for 10 quid.

well the 10-20 is a DC lens designed for cropped sensors so vignettes heavily on a 1.3x and a full frame sensor... so I'd recommend not wasting your time using a 10-20 on a full frame sensor.
nooob ahoooyyyyyy :)
Edit: I've made a few bob from photography too :)

yes mate.
so could've just said you used 'no I didn't use a crappy fish eye adaptor'
instead of trying to sound a smart arse because you have better gear than the person you were responding to, but making yourselves seem a stuck up div unwilling to take comments whilst happy to dish them out, and sounding silly to people who know a bit about photography.
Better gear doesn't mean better photos....
anyway, enough of you.
Jason, nice shot, I'd sort out the horizon. That's about 80% of the problem with these sorts of shots, make sure the horizon is horizontal :y:

care to explain why you would want to use a cropped sensor lens on a FF body? when it will cause the vignetting?
Fancy enlightening us to who is your client base for your 'freelance/commision work' :P

practice, practice, experiment, practice, practice and so on. If you take a picture and don't quite like it. Try to work out why, whether it's your limits as a photographer or whether it's your gear's limits. Try to remember that to you, the picture it might look bad but to everyone it might look good and, more importantly, visa-versa.
and if you have q's just ask :y:

I'm suprised i really am, must have got a duffer, or I got lucky. Had a look at mine t'other night and it was fine. Bring it tomorrow I want to see if it shite or you're not giving it a chance.
Don't like the 10-20 because of the narrow aperture and the fact it goes between f/4-5.6 - if it was wider I could probably take it (like the 17-35).
F/3.5 is ultra tempting though... Find some noob to sell mine to for £300 YAR.

Ill bring my kit so you can laugh at how fucking dirty it is atm. I need to give my gear a thorough clean before the next few weeks of shooting lol!
I just donno, it doesnt seem to like the light at work, I only really shoot the 17-35 in MOS if im trying anything, not really needing to use it elsewhere as i tend to be using the L glass all the time.
I still love my 10-20, although ill have to chop it in if i do still decide to upgrade the body
