i'm completely in the s**t now. Cant find work anywhere, i've had to sign on but still have a loan and fone bill etc to pay. I've had great help from my parents, but i have been charged £173 in bank charges, because my card let me take out money the other weekend, when it should have declined it. I used my card in a pub 3 times, when it was accepting it i thought, i must have enough in my bank then at the moment, and i had money coming in from ebay items i'd sold too. But next day i checked my account online, i had gone over my overdraft 3 times, by only £21.00 but getting drinks on my card at £6.00 a time or whatever, they charged me £35.00 3 times for each transaction that had gone over, and then another £28.00 as a fee for going over my overdraft. They sent a letter saying they'd come out of my account on the 31st march, but they've come out today, which has sent me £65.00 over my overdraft again, so no doubt they'll charge me again for that. And i can't extend my overdraft due to my "circumstances" Its an absolute jip, i've filled out this form thing online to try claim them back, so there gonna get back to me, but thats not the point. These bank charges are absolutely scandalous.

im with halifax. I even emailed them, saying if those charges come out of my account, i'm joining another bank, and f**k ur account up ur arse lol. Sorry about language, but i was realy cheesed off at the time, and there the words i put. Needless to say, i didn't hear back from them and they took the charges anyway lol

i went into the bank and got my charges back there and then through managers discretion. I think it may depend on how much you entitled to though.

yeah i guess so, well i've probably had 4 or 5 in the last 3 weeks lol, but claiming those charges back, would pay a month on my loan, so i could really do with them back. I'll just wait for that site to contact me i guess

take the money back with force and dont think about the consequences :boxing:
but on a serious note go in the bank and see what they can do. that sometimes helps :y:

but if the bank has taken the money in the first place, why would they have intention of giving me it back?

Next time you might learn to check how much you've got in your account before you go out on the pop. At the end of the day if you go overdrawn the bank are going to charge you for taking money out which isn't there, otherwise everyone would do it. why work when the bank will give me free money and not charge me for it!
They have gone a bit ott on the amount they've charged you though. I doubt you'll get much back if any reallly. Not having a go like.

ye i understand that stu, but like you say, the amount that they've charged me is unbelievable and why let me take money out that isn't there? They shud have declined my card if there wasn't enough in surely. Thats what they normally do, so why let the transaction go through, thats what i was pee'd off at the most

They most probs let it go through so they can charge you, which is wrong but you should know if theirs money there or not before you spend it really.

yeah i know. Thing is i'd been out since 8 friday, no sleep all night went back to a mates, then went bk to pub saturday afternoon, stayed out all day and night again, was really really pissed lol, so i kinda forgotten how much i'd spent, but i knew i had a couple hundred quid in ma bank, and cos the transactions wa still going through, i just thought i still had some in there. My fault in a way, but the bank charges, are still freaking scandolous

Its like going to a garage, puttin petrol in and then paying on your card, even if you have no money, they will take the charge, so people arnt stood there like "i know youve done the drink now, but im skint, sorryyyy"
You should have checked your account before you went out drinkin tbh

4th March 2009, 15:49
you spent 200 quid on drinks in 2 nights??
dont believe that
and the banks can charge what they want, you took 20 quid of there money without there permision, so why shouldnt they be allowed to take it back off you with intrest?
