right i thought it was about time i did a thread to see what you thought of what ive done, i wish i had posted when i first got the car, but its took me ages to get where i am, well 7months lol

soo here we go

right i got the mk1 vtr posi blue completly standard with 80k on the clocks but a bargain at 800 so i couldnt turn it down, it had 1 previous owner who lived down the road lol

so since then heres what ive done:

suspension, brakes
lowered 40mm front 50mm on back, with pi springs and shocks
lower brace
rear 24mm gti antiroll bar
266mm brakes

exterior:
s2 rallye steelies
tinted front lights
blacked rear badges
meshed grill
white towing eye, with tow stickers in white too
white mirror caps
took fogs out
dewipered

engine, transmission:
raceland manifold
supersprint race centre
piper 3 inch outwardly rolled backbox
powertec open filter
powerflex lower engine mount
1.4 xsi gearbox

interior:
corbeau boss reclining buckets with sliding fames
raceland harnesses
fully stripped ish lol
cit sport gearnob
wires for sub when i feel like putting it in now and again lol

right sooo i think thats all from what i can remember so its had quite a transformation since i first got it, but since ive lost my job the progress is on hold, below is a list of the things that are still needed to be done when i get a job, ive already got some of them or recieving them, so they will be fitted as soon as i get them and pics shall be posted lol

to do list:
s1 rallye inlet head and ecu set (already have just needs fitting)
newmans ph2 cam and remap
swap buckets for fixed ones
omp corsica wheel and boss (awaiting delivery)
fibregash bonnet
fibregash widemouth sprayed white
refurb wheels
cage
polyrace bushes

i think thats all of the things to do, it doesnt help having a job lol, other wise i think i would have the rallye set up and cam fitted now, but thats the first thing to do when i get a job, but im sure there will be other things to add to the list, there always is with anybodys list of to dos lol

but i was just wanting opinions of what people thought of what id done and my progress etc would be greatly aapreciated

right then heres a fewlink pics of my car, theres quite a few by the way lol

vtr_chris90
7th March 2009, 19:01
nah man i still have dash in, i had to remove it so i could take all the firewall and soundproofing from under it, then put the dash back in

all in i think that stuff i ripped out weight a good 10k, well certainly felt it when it was all in black bin liner lol

7th March 2009, 19:29

Looks nice that mate, damn sight cleaner inside than mine!

vtr_chris90
7th March 2009, 19:35
lol it does, i was well suprised at how much it weighed, glad it weighed alot though cause the amount of effort it took to take out, it took me and willsy about 5 and half hours from start to finish lol

but thanks mate

yer man,

once i get the rallye set up on and got it cammed it will be hitting the tracks,

but hopefully it wont be too long till i get the rallye set up on, i just need to find a job so i can buy the cam pully and remap, as i was made redundant the day i was going to order them and book for a remap,

how unlucky is that lol haha

I'm kind of in the same boat pal, I've got a few things on my mind to do but I need another car as a daily run around because what I want to do to this car would be good for daily use. lol
are you doing some track time at the French car show?

vtr_chris90
10th March 2009, 15:53
nahh im not doing it at the fcs, i will be doing some soon though, i need more funds first, cause i have no job, and couldnt afford the extra for the ticket with my tax due that month, but when i start geting money coming it i will be getting a few days booked

are you getting yours on the track?

17th March 2009, 14:52
right guys im thinking of going a little lower on the back

what do you lot think?

i was only thinking about another 10mm, but im unsure what to do and would it look ok a bit lower on back with the front how it is?

chris

mattevts
17th March 2009, 16:41
no don't lower it any more at the back it will make the handling worse its already 50mm rear 40mm front really its best to have it equal or slightly lower at front id say 50mm max. mines 40mm allround

jdizzy
17th March 2009, 19:47
its fine how it is bud :y:

ahhh yer but dont forget i have no interior at all so lowering an extra 10mm would probs look like a car with interior lowered about 45mm, joshb has lowered his 80mm at the back and it sits as high as a car with interior at 60mm drop casue he has no interior too, so i should get away with it handling wise

its fine how it is bud :y:

ahh looks pretty kool, kinda like a 'track slag'. i prefer having interior but wat eva you like mate, your car, bet it will go some wen your done :)

but thanks for comments

im still not sure, i wouldnt mind doing it, but part of me really cant be bothered to lower the back again cause it will probs either end up wonky or higher than the 1st time i lowered lol haha

but yer im hoping it will go some lol haha

i just need a job to fund the rest of the engine spec

but im fittting a 1.4 xsi box on sun and hopefully heatwrapping the mani on fri so will update with pics when mani is done and results, well opinions on box when that is finished

but keep the comments coming guys, greatly appriciate it

Looks very tidy mate.

Loving the s2 steelies.

vtr_chris90
21st March 2009, 00:15
thanks mate

yer alot of people seem to be loving the steelies lol

i think they suit the posi blue nicely, couldnt have picked a better wheel lol, well ideally at the time i wanted pro race 1.2's in white, but ohwell really glad i went for these, although they could do with a refurb soon, ill probs do this when i change the tyres lol

also i had the gearbox in the back today and it made it sit lower and i really cant make my mind up now wether to go a touch lower and back, and wether it would look ok with front as it is with back a bit lower lol

vtr_chris90
22nd March 2009, 01:15

your flying ahead mate lol quick question: where did you get your tow stickers from? lol and whats the reason and style for them beacause i want to get some and i dont want to sound an idiot if someone asks what there for and i dont have an answer lol

vtr_chris90
22nd March 2009, 20:20
right big update then finally got the 1.4 xsi box on

and its amazing!, can feel such a big difference allready and ive not really given it much of the foot lol cause i need to let clutch bed in a bit and everythink else settle a lil more

but i would definatly recomend this to others

later on this week i may take it out for a nice run round the lanes :P and see what its really like lol

so thats one more thing off my todo list, then im heatwrapping my mani later on in the week aswell so will update with some pics then aswell, was going to get some pics today but im sure youve all seen a gearbox before lol

your flying ahead mate lol quick question: where did you get your tow stickers from? lol and whats the reason and style for them beacause i want to get some and i dont want to sound an idiot if someone asks what there for and i dont have an answer lol

ohhh i just got them on ebay mate, just typed in tow stickers and theres loads of different ones

erm well people usually just put them on track cars and just shows where your tow eye is, but some people just put them on for style to give it the track look, well thats what they say lol, i must admit i did go for them cause i thought they would suit the look i have and i just wanted something else in white to compliment the wheels a bit more lol

but it will e used on the track eventually, when i get a job and can afford the track days lol

vtr_chris90
23rd March 2009, 18:05
well took it out for a proper spin today in the lanes with the new box on

and its sooooo fast im not joking, theres such a huge improvement over the vtr box, would recomand this to anyone

just seems to pull sooo much better and accelerate harder

vtr_chris90
28th March 2009, 18:22
update guys

finally got the manifold wrapped

looks loads better now and the engine bay is sooooo much cooler

what you reckon guys?

vtr_chris90
28th March 2009, 18:23
also going on rolling road tomorow

so shall update again with figures and pics of car lol

jdizzy
28th March 2009, 19:36
looking real nice pal :y: does the heatwrapp make alot of diffrence? pm me the results of the rolling road mate :)
im picking up a Series1 106 Rallye next week :D cant wait to get that on the road lol

vtr_chris90
28th March 2009, 19:54
thanks mate

erm well im not sure about performance i dont think it would do much in that, but some have said it does, personally i dont think it does much though,

but under the bonnet it makes a huge difference its sooo much cooler, which is better for me since i have an open induction atm

ahhhh nice man, i well wanted one of them, they are amazing, would trade this for one i think lol but at the time this popped up and needed a car plus was a good price so i took it while i had the chance as it was best car i could find at the time within a good distance

i will drop you a pm though matey

jdizzy
28th March 2009, 20:08
cool, well im thinking of geting some at the end of the month for mine but didnt know whether it would do any good to the engine bay temperature or not, but thanks for the info.
maybe when ive tarted it up u wana swap? :D lol not too far away from you either bud. lol
how much did you pay for the car?

vtr_chris90
29th March 2009, 22:51
yer get some mate def worth getting, im pleased with mine, so glad i got it

lol haha yer maybe you never know

erm i paid £800, completly standard and it was on 84k so not a bad buy only had one owner from new aswell, it was best standard one around at the time, as i didnt really want to buy one already modded cause i wanted to do it my way and not have to put up with someone elses style if you get me

vtr_chris90
29th March 2009, 22:57
right then also got some good results from the rolling road to day, very happy with results

i got 93bhp at the wheels and 108bhp at the fly and 110ft lbs of torque, seems a little high to me, but the rollers gave a very accurate wheel power then calculated the fly power, but its the wheel power that matters the most right? lol and so at least that is accurate. im so glad i put the new refurbed xsi box on with new clutch etc now, as my wheel power before was 77bhp i think, so really chuffed there

a couple of pics too, nothing too special though lol ;)

jdizzy
30th March 2009, 07:44
not bad mate :y:

what's the plans next for it?

how much did the rolling road cost u?

vtr_chris90
30th March 2009, 13:05
i know mate, dead chuffed with it

erm well most of my plans are now on hold as im really struggling finding a job, cause i just have the main bits for it now, like getting the cam, headwork, pully and remap, all in thats 1500
then looking at getting billie group n's and faulkner springs, with 22mm torsion bars and poly race bushes all around that will cost just over a grand i think now since the group n's are 500 and torsions are 300 to 400 cant remember

biut they are main plans, when i get a job that is. but wont be for a while, as im sort of fucked for money, as i have none and have no job, and at end of may i have mot due and tax and insurance lol not good

but oh yer i have an omp corsica wheel on the way lol and i may just do little bits i think, as and when i can

as for the rolling road it was 15quid for two runs as part of a group meet thing in leamington, you should have come man, your from west mids ish lol

jdizzy

o right i see, my step dad is in the same boat mate, he cant find a job either! :n:

but i see that youve got no job but u will keep spending on your car lol

noway, thats pretty cheap. yeah im from west midlands. wish i came now lol

any idea of when the next 1 is? lol

lol yer i do i just keep spending, i think since ive lost my job, i bought my xsi gearbox and new clutch, omp steering wheel, lower brace, lower engine mount, heatwrap, erm a few more bits lol now all my money from the last pay i got is gone haha, which i shouldnt have done really, but oh well glad i did

erm well the new steering wheel should be here in about a week or two, so i think thats the next mod, then i decided today im going to get some bonnet pics and get rid of all the bonnet catch etc on front and cable and lever from passenger side were it releases bonnet, save a bit more weight haha also cause i like the look

erm im not sure though after them two, as the only things next are the engine mods which are 1500, so i think it will be a bit of a waiting game till then and enjoy what i have now i think

but yer man you should have come, was a really good day out and lots of nice cars with some good figures too

yup you guessed right mate, yer thats what i thought, people wont expect the sound that will come from it which makes me laf, also its a bit quiter inside the car with the supersprint backbox on which is weird but atleast my ears dont hurt any more lol haha :homme:

like it :y: what zorst is it mate? standard? lol

its supersprint race exhaust mate, you should get one ;)

they are amazing, i bought it in oct, but then fancied a change and wanted a piper 3 inch so got that a couple of months ago, but nothing compares to the rasp of the supersprint (well the pugsport and omp do lol) sooo i put it back on for a while

it just looked a bit more subtle than the piper does, which is another good side, as most people wont have any idea that its a full system untill i put my foot down lol

erm, well im not to sure about performance, i spuppose with it being a smaller backbox you may get better backpressure, but im dont think its that noticable, you just get a lot of rasp with the supersprint, its the saxos equivalent to the 106's pugsport, except i think the pugsport sounds better though lol imo, i was thinking about getting the pugsport and filling in the recess but not too sure about how it looks

but you will have to let me know what the rallye is like man, drop me a pm. i really want one lol you will have to come to a west mids meet in it dude so i can have a butchers

ahhhhh thats good then lol

Looks much better with the supersprint, you got the piper for sale :P

yer i thikn so too mate

erm no lol, i want to keep this i paid alot for it and just fancy keeping a second backbox, just for when i fancy another change if you get me

if i do decide to sell though, since youve asked you can be first to know if i remember lol

Hi, have you got any pics of the car from the side? Debating white steelies :)

hi mate yer ive got a couple of pics, ive changed my 1st post in this thread, ive posted the pics up so you can look at them easier lol, instead of just putting a link up to my photobucket then everyone seaarching through etc etc so take alook mate

i got a couple more too so if you want more let me know

nice car mate, think its pretty much the same model as mine as the coil pack is over the back of the engine init ?

your mods seem pretty good.

im intrested in doing the xsi box

was it expensive mate ?

yer i have the 90bhp engine

what you got planned mate?

erm the 1.4 xsi box is def a huge upgrade from the vtr box, its def well worth doing, as for costs its bit unsure how much to say

erm you would need new oil about 10quid, new shaft seals, again about 10quid as they are dealer only parts

and while your changing the box you may aswell do clutch now i got mine at cost price as i worked for a parts company at the time, but normal price your looking 80 quid maybe

then its the box, it can depend on how if you can find one, and what mileage is, and if its been refurbed, erm prices range between 60 and 200 quid, depending on mileage or if its been rebuilt, but your best finding low mileage or a rebuilt one to be honest but lets say 100 to 150, so all in your looking 250 area maybe more, or maybe a bit less

but its a fair bit of work too mate, took me and a mate 6 hours to do, and garage wise it will cost alot to get done there, probs 150 maybe more have a read about mate, theres lots of threads on xsi boxs

its a replica of the omp corsica wheel by rallydesign, and its a very good one at that, i think if you got the two and took all the badges off you couldnt tell the difference

what you think guys?

hopefully ill be getting this fitted tomorow night, if i can get my seats sorted as the drivers runner is broke lol so will update with more pics when its fitted

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0108.jpg

i bought it mon night as a last minute decision on ebay lol at half 1 in the monring but very glad i checked before i turned comp off, as it was the best bargain ever!

i paid 35quid for it posted 1st class, and its brand new, not a single mark on it, god knows why the guy put it at this price especially as they are 110inc post new, and norm sell for like 60quid 2nd hand used, so dead chuffed with that, all i need now is cam when they arrive, and a mls headgasket and its all going on in the bank holiday weekend end of may hopefully

also another update, got the steering wheel fitted tonite, looks amazing and feels soooo much better, bit wierd at first cause its alot closer to me that the origional saxo wheel lol

but weighs shit loads less too lol so its alll good lol

heres a couple of pics, sorry they arnt the best it got a bit dark lol, i will get a few more up tomorow though

vtr_chris90
13th May 2009, 21:49
yer i will get some pics

although if you mean actually fitting them im not doing that, im getting the old ones press out and the new ons put in by garage, cause theres a garage opposite my work and they are just going to do it for free lol, but there was one condition i had to do my mot there haha, so i booked that next week so though it would save me the hassle of messing getting origional ones out

LEE_VTR1
13th May 2009, 21:51
you failed chris i dont think them arb bushes will fit your arb cause im sure the polyraces are for the smaller front arb's

vtr_chris90
13th May 2009, 22:04

frankie
13th May 2009, 22:07

willsy
13th May 2009, 22:24
Chris is you have an extra £20 available whilst you're changing the top mounts (being a man and getting group N ones?) you may aswel get some new top bearings if you can.

willsy
13th May 2009, 22:27
These are the anti roll bar mounts that you want to get aswel mate

The black ones are stiffer than the purple ones

http://www.spoox.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=84_96&products_id=596

Edit: spoox are only based in leicester too mate so you could go and pick some up from there when you see your mrs next rather than wait for postage?

Chris is you have an extra £20 available whilst you're changing the top mounts (being a man and getting group N ones?) you may aswel get some new top bearings if you can.

hmm i would get some bearings but i cant stretch that far, money is very very tight atm untill i get paid, ive had to borrow alot of my mrs till i get paid, and im very greatfull for that as it is, i dont know what id do without her lol well i do , id be in the shitter lol

but that means i cant get grp n ones either unfortunatly, but ill be getting some in a couple months when i get my bilstein grp n sus and ill probs get new bearings then too mate, when i acutally have some of my own money lol and have got mot tax and insurance out the way this month

ahhhh yer thats good then will save me a few quid then, i will probs have to wait till after i get paid though, so looks like the arb bushes wont be done now till june lol, but i am looking into putting some polyrace bushes on rear too in june, so will probs order at same time
but yer i know the black ones are stiffer, lee had them on his vtr didnt he, well he had wishbones, i dont know about arb ones

vtr_chris90

just hope the weather holds out lol other wise ill have to bodge some sort of shelter as my mot is on tues and this needs to be done for it

i will update again tomorow once all is fitted with pics hopefully

right then

todays update i fitted all my parts so its all ready now for the mot, got the polyrace bushes fitted too and i have to say i have noticed a fair bit of a difference, but it may have been more of a difference due to me replacing sooo many other things too, which were erm how can i say... fucked lol and that may have affected the handling a fair bit too but still lol

a few piccies of the day, not alot though due to having to crack on with the job due to shitty british weather lol

off with the old

i was quite proud of that idea lol
http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0121.jpg

the garage was full of shit and my dads project was in the way and couldnt be moved to get my car in the garage so had to compramise a little

chris 1 - weather 0 great success lol haha

but then the badnews came lol when i got the drive shaft out i realised there was some play in it which isnt good, should last a little bit longer depending on how easy i take it lol but theres another thing i now have to add to the list, luckily i can just get one on discount from work lol so its all good sort of

yer i know, but i had to get it done really anyway weather it was sun, rain snow or hale lol cause it would have been picked up on the mot on tues, and then they would end up doing it all and i would have to pay extra which i cant afford lol so i would rather do it and get it all fitted for free even if it means getting a little wet lol

i know but had no choice unless i want to fail emissions lol

erm you can get the poly race bushes from rally design or kamracing, then get the powerflex black bush for front arb, which is equivilent to polyrace

def worth doing imo i have semi purchased some rear beam poly race mounts off alexb, just waiting to give him the money now which will be next week i think and then fit in about 2 weeks cant wait to get them on and will probs be ordering the arb bushes end of this week too

lol yer well some people had filled the garage with there cars lol not pointing anyfingers hahahaha jokes

erm was only ment to be a quick job but due to the stop starting all the time cause of weather it took around 4 hours lol inc a lunch a couple tea breaks hahaha as you do, was hoping to get it all done within 2 hours tops

but yer they do this is where work comes in handy, go staff discount woopwoop cheap shaft for me lol

bt yer that will be done eventually got a few things on my mind atm lol added 2 new things to the list mate, ive sent bakerbm a email and going to be gettting upper and lower group n mounts after i get paid this month i think, and get the poly bushes on from alex and the arb bushes, and should be a good set up i hope, then when i can aford it get the ecu group n mount lol which will be next month i think, cause i still need to get mls gasket for when i cam the engine and 2 metres of battery cable this month too lol

furioFELL

exactly what i've got planned mate, just picked up some new springs for mine today, just hoping mine passes it's mot, i'll be gutted if it doesnt, cost me £400 quid in parts this week, all good fun though........kinda lol

vtr_chris90
18th May 2009, 22:09
nice, what set up u got planned for yours then just ph3 and remap?

i know the feeling man bloody mots, cost an arm and leg lol im lucky and i work at car parts place so i get things cheap so didnt cost me too much, but with what i did i would have been around 300qui if it wasnt for the discount

well you mean it willl all be good fun when its finished lol, but i think its just as fun putting it all together and watching the progress of it change slowly into what you want it to be and then enjoy it for a bit before the changing starts all over again lol

furioFELL
18th May 2009, 22:22
yea my parts are all discounted too as i'm a mecanic and know a few handy people at motor factors but still racked u a massive bill, well, goin group n mounts and polybushed all round to get the handling spot on, the goin for a high compression big valve head with probs newmans ph3 cam, haven't decided yet, either a datashift ecu or possibly a kms piggyback, or if the money situation is good something that's constantly remappable, oh plus a full exhaust system and lightweight it as much as possible but still keep it useable as a road car lol

vtr_chris90
18th May 2009, 22:30
ahhh sounds a good set up man, will be interesting to see it run, similar to mine mius the managment and bigvalve head

i wouldnt mind standalone but money is really tight for me atm as it is, so that will be done at a later date if i go bodies, as i plan staying 8v and running jenvys in the future but, as most poeple know plans that far ahead can change so will wait nearer to time as to that decision lol and just enjoy a decent 8vset up for now and get used to driving and improve a bit get a few trackdays in for experience before getting more power, i think a cammed vtr will be good till that decision on bodies comes lol

furioFELL
19th May 2009, 16:09

i picked this badboy up tonite and its annoying me now, cause its just sitting there staring at me and telling me to fit it hahaha

its the newmans ph2 cam, which is the same as the ph3 cam but this is for the rallye and xsi heads, as they use bigger bearings than the vtr heads

and i would like to thank jorge- for setting the group buy up lol cause i dont think i would have got this quite yet if it wasnt for that lol

i am getting all of my s1 rallye set up out over the weekend along with all my service parts to see what else i need to cam it, and may take a few cheeky pics lol

i know you have, i had a read through the other night but didnt have time to comment lol, the plans sound good though mate, oh and one thing, you only have 2 choices of cam, ph1 and ph3, not ph2, the ph2 cam is only for the 106 rallye's and xsi's it cant be used on vtrs, due to the xsi and rallye heads having bigger bearings, erm but the ph2 is pretty much the same as ph3 anyway lol haha both 280deg

tiny update today

i decided now i have some decent shocks, its time to get decent springs ordered ready to fit them

sooo i got on the phone to faulkners today and ive ordered a set of springs, i decided to go for 175lb and 240mm length and i am told should lower around 40mm

so will be a bit stiffer than the ones from kam, but i think they will be just right for me as i use my car daily doing 50 miles a day so they wont be too stiff i hope, if they are then shit happens lol

unfortunatly they will take up to 2 weeks to be delivered but will be well worth the wait

right then nice update today

i have had a few nice litle deliveries this week

my faulkners have finally arrived

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0155.jpg

i decided to go with 175lb and 240mm length, soo should lower around 40-45mm i think, so should sit nice and handle well with the group n inserts

i managed to find some bilstein group n rears on 106owners at a bargain price, so snapped them up, personally i dont think they look the tidiest but thats just me being picky, but im to impatient to give them a touch of paint lol cause i want to fit them asap lol so here they are
http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0154.jpg

sooo i finally have a full bilstein group n suspension kit
http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0157.jpg

this is all just sitting up the garage annoying me lol cause i want to fit, but hopefully wil be getting them on mon or tues night

oh and another little parcel came for me today aswell, my powerflex black arb bushes, i forgot to take pics though lol

now alll im waiting for is my group n top mounts which will be here mon, along with my polyrace exhaust mounts

also picking up my polyrace beam bushes and a nice bonnet from db_sax on mon and maybe another little something too, if he manages to get them off the car, well finds someone to do it lol

so stil plenty more to come over the next couple of weeks, as i have something else planned which i wont reveal untill it gets here lol

vtr_chris90
22nd June 2009, 23:52
right then biggggg update today then

well got this done the other day but havnt had chance to update lol

i finally got my suspesion fitted, so i got group n front and rear shocks and faulkner 175lb springs lowered about 40mm

was a bit of effort, cause halfway through the thread on a coller went so had to pop over to bilstein uk which is luckily down the road from me and got some new ones

and the end result is its fucking awsome lol, im sooo happy with it, its soo stiff and handles very well, keeps flat round the corners which is great, cant wait to push it round the tracks lol

i also got powerflex black series arb bushes fitted on the front too, they feel sooo much better than the originals
and to compliment this i also fitted some tasty group n top mounts which work very well with the set up

i just need to fit my polyrace rear beam mounts

and 2nd update

i have new wheels! lol couldnt resist buying them, got an absolute bargain from rallyereg

i decided to bag my self a set of speedline 2118's (corse) in white with yoko a539 tyres, so big upgarde on tyres too lol since i had budgets on my steelies lol

heres a few taster pics, i could only take a couple cause i had to go out, but will get a good few on sun of all the changes as ill be working on the car alllll weekend

Nice update mate, the mounts will be money well spent and you will be very happy with them.

i know yer i cant wait to get them all on next weekend, how were the baker bm mounts db? cause when i was at spoox he actually said the bakerbm ones were soft compared to others and not what they are all cracked up to be?

but ohwell, they should still do an awsome job too

still has only cost me 140quid for a full set of engine mounts, which i think is a bargain

Hmm im not so sure tbh, they made a huge differenc eon my car, made the dash vibrate plenty!

He mighta just been saying that to boost theyre spoox mounts more? not sure.

I can only compare to Group A as i havnt used any other Grp N mounts from another company before, only Grp A.

Very cheap though from spoox, il be getting them from there when i get to the bush and mount stage of my rebuild!

vtr_chris90
8th July 2009, 20:20
ahhh ok i get you, so still will be plenty hard enough then, thats good :P

well, it was like 80 for ecu side mount, then i paid 50delivered for upper and lower gearbox mounts from bakerbm

so its actually only cost me 130 lol bonus

vtr_chris90
10th July 2009, 22:00
wellll nice big update today

finally after many months of prep and buying things, i had what i needed

i had a s1 rallye top end with ecu, quicky loom adapted to run ecu, inlet, head, fpr plus injectors etc etc

accompenied with a newmans 280 deg ph2 cam (same as ph3 pretty much)

also i replaced most things while i was there too, like cambelt kit, alternator belt, water pump, replaced thermostat with 82deg one, erm oil and filter, fuel filter etc etc

it wasnt tooo bad to fit it all, i did have one major problem though, the loom i had was from a quicksilver that had been adapted to run with s1 inlet and ecu, so should have gone straight into the vtr, well i would have had to change multiplug, butttt turns out that the part of the vtr loom going to fuse box, is actually part of the interior loom on quicky, so this would have meant i would need to change the entire car loom really, which was a bummer cause now means i have to keep vtr ecu on

but the upside is, im now going to invest into the predator ecu instead,, so alll is good lol just means i have to put up with the 6250rpm limiter instead of the rallyes 7250, which is a bummerr, but will soon be sorted once i get the predator ecu :P

then also i realised on mine the fpr was actually next to fuel pump, so this meant i had to still use vtr fuel rail, but swap injectors over to rallye ones as the vtr injectors wouldnt fit the rallye head, i still fitted all the rest of my rallye stuff though so still happy lol

other than that all went well i think and is pretty straight forward

so heres what was going onto the car

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0176.jpg

stripping it down

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0177.jpg

off with the old on with the new

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0178.jpg

and heres the finished product for today

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0179.jpg

theres still a few things yet to do as you can see by the last pic

i need to finish adapting some of the wires, and make a plate so i can still use the silertop coil pack, erm what elle...

oh change a few hoses, and do a bit of chopping, bolt inlet mani on properly and fit throttle body, fit air filter then time the cam up and double check everything over

will be doing this on sun, as im out tomorow with rents, so hopefully it will be done by lunchtime, then its out for a test drive :P

cant wait lol

what you thing guys

Top work there mate. Will be nervous cranking it over I bet? :D

thanks mate

erm yer just a bit, im still try ing to look up other peoples timings of the ph2 cam, just been searching rallyereg for about an hour, ive found one good gauge to go by so far, set it to 0 then retard by 2 marks on pulley, but i dont know my das good at this, so he will most likely just do it by touch and feel i think

not sure what to expect results wise though, what did you make with yours mate? and is it mapped i cant remember lol

Hmm, I'd be tempted to go with standard timing to being with.

You could fit the standard cam pulley and lock it in the right position for standard timing. Carefully remove the pulley without rotating the cam and then fit your vernier on. Then it's just a case of adjusting the timing from there for best performance - in my experience, it's deffo worth getting it adjusted on the rollers!

yer see thats what ive got it at already, and was going to do exactly what you said on sun

erm but from what sandy has said on rallyereg, cazuse hes used this cam and he said he had to retard it a bit so he didnt get contact, but im still doing a bit of searching on there to double check and ive pmed him so hopefully he will get back to be before sun lol

erm but yer its fairly strate forward really, ok mate just drop me a pm when ever

Nice car mate I don't understand you had Manu and full system and 1.4xsi box and you got 108bhp at the fly and 110 tourque? On my vtr when I had it put on the rolling road I have a cotton green filter and a standard broken exhaust with a Decat and I got 105bhp at the fly and 121 ft/lb of tourque. And another thing with the ph3 cams it says you need to do something with the fueling? What do you haveto do cause I was interested in getting it.

right, well one thing is diffenernt rollers all give different resullts, and yours sounds a little off, cause a standard vtr has like 100ft/lb torque i think, or just under, and just by putting a mani and exhaust on your not really going to gain a huge amount of torque, i dont even think a vts has that much with breather mods, the power though seems fine since yours is a mk1 isnt it?

basically with the ph3 cams it will run fine mate, you wiull need a remap though thats all, and some people always advise to go with the s1 inlet mani too, which is what ill say too, as oyu will get slightly better gains, and will work with the cam alot better than standard inlet mani, cause the rallye inlet mani is alot bigger than vtr one,

you do have a mk1 aswel dont you?

Looks good there :D

thanks mate

thanks mate

lol yer 8v are awsome, its great cause you can just mix and match with other 8v to get better results which is what i did

it should do i hope, will definatly be interesting, then when the single plug pred is done ill be investing in that, so ill find out the final result then, but might get it on a rolling road soon to see how its doing unmapped lol and double check the cam timing

11th July 2009, 12:39
looks well mate, although i think you should be out there now, instead of MSN ;)

ive should recieve my rallye head soon, also bought a 1.6 rallye bottom end for a 10er, looking at rebuilding that and using the piston's from my vts bottom end.

do you know how much the oil seals are? as i was told they need replacing in the head.

i hope your inlet work's, everytime ive tried to fit one, it idles like a pikey.

lol well if it was finished it would be out there, but i cant finish it today my dads gone out and hes helping me with the wiring, cause just got to finish the shitty inlet wiring lol

ahhh nice, you running any inperticular cam? will be good though

erm i really dont know mate to be honest, or do you mean stem seals? if its them they should be like 60p each from a motorfactors

what else you doing to it? you running the vtr ecu still? you should do what im doing, invest in a pred will see awsme gains when its all mapped up

but i should get it idling fine, my das awsome when it comes to this stuff, weve changed a few things around, and im using the icv on the throttlebody instead of putting it at side of inlet, saves messing about aswell

Yeah i had mine set up on a rolling road and made 119.5bhp and 112.1lbft unmapped. Deffinately worth while doing if you dont plan on mapping your standard ecu. Thats on a 98bhp engine. I want a 3plug Predator, hopefully see a bit more then.

Im using a milder cam than you too, a PT40, with a piper 4-1 and supersprint race system and raceland with green filter induction.

frankie
11th July 2009, 12:50
will be running the PH2 cam i spet, also guna order one of those bad boi mounts (the under ecu jobby) as i have the rest, but was just waiting for that one to come up.

maybe it was stem seals, i could'nt remember will have to look back through PM'S

im will be getting standalone, but not the pred one.

i used both method's and the ICV on the TB is the better one but was still not idleing proper.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 12:52
ahh thats awsome results man, i wonder what mine will make then, im hoping for 120bhp maybe, but if your making that with milder cam, plus i have the rallye inlet, i think it could be around what you have since you got extra 8bhp to start with lol

yer the pred is awsome, the bonus for me is i may go bodies in the near future so will save me forking out for standlone then and then another remap, ill just tweak the pred up

whats the piper mani like though? i am thinking of one, not sure if i can be bothered to mess about and re heatwrap it and swap them over and whether it will be worth all that lol

vtr_chris90

ahhh nice cam choice lol

yer im fitting mine next weekend so will let you know how it performs, what other group n mounts do you have? did you go for bakerbm ones too lol

ok then thats good, ill use that one still then, but im sure i can get it to idle fine lol

why arent you going for the pred? what ecu are you actually going for then?

frankie
11th July 2009, 13:03
i got mine from the bay.

i dont know what its called, but its a megasquirt jobby, made by mtech, there 5 mins down the road from me so mapping and fitting is mega simple's

also where did you get your 82 degree thermostat?

Wizzy
11th July 2009, 13:08
The manifold is sweet, Build quality is brilliant and it fits like a glove, well reccomended! Check my progress thread for pics and shizz.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 13:10
ahhhh thats alright then, if thats easier than mayaswell go for that then

right i got mine from work cause i work for central auto supplies

but you can get it from any motorfactors and its from a 205 1.1 think its like 1984 or 85

there will be a couple of deg options though, but if you just ask them to search 1.1 205 it should come up with the 82deg one thats what i did, orrr i could give you the QH part number that would be easier i think

the box is around somewhere lol, ill have a look in a sec

frankie
11th July 2009, 13:19
if you could get us the part number matey that would be minter...

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 13:46
right i cant find the part number mate, im in work on mon, if you want me to get it from there, and if you pm me your number ill text you the part number if you like, and the trade price, so you can go to which ever motorfactor you can and say central auto supplies can get me a QH one for this price and see if they can match it lol hows that sound? they might not, but will give you an idea of what to pay its not going to be alot though

i know its like 10quid from halfords, but you should be looking to pay about 7quid for the kit, which has the gasket in aswell

AlexB
11th July 2009, 13:48
yer it could be very interesting lol

hmmm i wonder, i think you will be disapointed cause ill be right up your hindy all the way round the track lol hahahaha

jokes

you may very well be tbh man when i get the gti up and running im taking it steady for a bit lol

however in my vtr ill be abusing you as we all know nothing beats a vtr with a supersprint and bmc (plus i have the extra 8 bhp to start with lol)

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 18:09
lol butttt that extra 8bhp is nothing really

ill arse rape you round a track if you was in vtr

Sophia_Bush
11th July 2009, 18:48
looks good I wise you listened to me in original pms months ago about the loom BUT be clever and you can make some money back on it, sell it on moaners gaurantee to make a good few quid back

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 19:40
yer you did say it may not work, and i was aware of that mate, i was going to try and adapt it, butt didnt realise the shire scale of how diff they was, we started figuring out what was where from the ecu side, then we got to the end where the multi plug and was like shit lol

but there is a positive side to it and it now means i can run the predator ecu, so im still happ,y and i think i would still make just as much power with a remap on the vtr ecu as i would on the rallye ecu to be fair, its just the bonus of having the higher limiter untill i get the remap lol

but yer ill flog it on, lee has someone with a quicky interested in his engine stuff, so hes going to see if he wants if, if not ill stick it on moaners someone will more than likely have it over there lol

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 19:50
Its looks really nice chris. I liked you car the first time I saw it at the garage.

The only thing im not keen on is the meshed grill at the front.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 19:54
thanks mate

lol the mesh grill, of all the things to pick u dont like haha

i quite like it tbh, i spose its a personal preference jobbie there lol

but yours is coming along very well now dan cant wait to see it at the meet, i want to see your tb set up lol

makaveli144

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 20:03
lol haha ohhhh it cant be that bad can it

what do you need to do then?

Just needs a general tidying up, rockers need polishing up, theres dirt everywhere and wires and stuff need clipping out of the way. it really is a mess lol.

Just needs a general tidying up, rockers need polishing up, theres dirt everywhere and wires and stuff need clipping out of the way. it really is a mess lol.

ahhh nothing a pack of baby wipes cant sort out then lol hahahaha

will get it half way there then, so you will be fine, will only take about 10 mins, i quickly went over mine today, and it looks soooo much better just by ginving it a little clean, still not the best of engine bays, but itll do for now lol

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 20:26
maybe we will see.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 20:29
yer maybe lol, i still wanna see engine bay though even if it is dirty and messy i dont care lol

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 20:38
ill have to pull my finger out then

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 21:13
yer you will man, ive still got to get my arse into gear, i have got to get my grp n engine mounts on, they should be here start of this week, also my solid rear wishbone mounts, that will probs be next week though to be fair lol

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 21:15
yer you will man, ive still got to get my arse into gear, i have got to get my grp n engine mounts on, they should be here start of this week, also my solid rear wishbone mounts, that will probs be next week though to be fair lol

I need to move onto the mounts, just cba to be honest lol. They seem so fiddly and hard to change.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 21:21
lol erm not really, the lower one is the hardest and even then its a 15 min job max, the spoox ecu one seems quite simple to fit tbh erm and the upper gearbox, just have to remove the battery and unbolt shouldnt take longer than an hour, oh the fiddliest bit, you have to drill the hole on the silver part that goes between the engine and ecu mount cant think what its called lol, but the normal hole isnt big enough

but lees sorting me out, hes got a spare which hes going to take to work and sort out then its a straight swap for me lol

you need some though iirc ;)

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 21:24
Yea I do, when I read through your thread it inspired me to look through the spoox site. the stuff on there seems really good.I will get a full set in the next few weeks probs. The main thing for me is finding some matching buckets as I have odd ones at the minute.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 21:32
lol hahahaha oh yer you do, yer you need some good ones too

thinking of buckets i need to get some new ones, as my dad is having mine and retrimming in leather lol for his car the gay, but i know which ones i getting, i can get 2 buckets fixed back with fibreglass backs, with omp subframes and some side mounts for about 360 plus post

how good is that for a bargain lol im good when it comes to bargais, ask willsy he will agree he always has some comment for it, the other day it was a legend cause i got a full 10point cage in white for 250 lol and the guy lives in cov how good is that, i havnt got it yet though, its not out the car for a couple weeks yet

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 21:34
Was that cage for sale on a forum somewhere? I think I saw it posted somewhere. That is a good price. Your car does pull off the track look very well too.

Yea Im hoping to bag a bargain thats why Im waiting and then when the right ones come along Ill snap em up.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 21:44
yer it was from rallyereg, i find all my bargains there tbh

its a good forum though, i get alot of my info and research from there, i pretty much learnt all my engine knowledge from there tbh its an awsome forum for things like that though, alot of people know what they are on about, and everyone knows everyone type of thing, cause its not a huge forum

but mine are new seats aswell, not frm someone from a forum lol

oh and it wont just be for look, it will be track car very soon, first tim ei htink will be trax which is when i can afford it other wise id love to join JP in the track day at donny but just really cant afford it

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 22:07
Mine will be on track at Trax and im planning on going with josh to donny in august too. never been on track before though.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 22:15
ahh awsome man, you will be miles ahead but will still be fun lol

i well wanna go in august, just cant afford it

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 22:17
I dunno I will probably be driving like a granny with it been my first time on track. A quick question, I assume a Pug S1 cage will fit a sax? I just wondered if you know?

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 22:21
yelol i know i would be like that too tbh, well it would seem really fast to you, but then to everyone else your like an old aged pentioner lol

erm yer it should do mate

the only diff is with 106 and saxo cages are that if you get a dashdodger from a 106 it may not clear the dash on saxo, cause it comes out further so will need to cut a little bit, cause the one im getting is a dashdodge but from a 106 so i may need to cut my dash a little but i ent that bothered to be fair just means a little less wieght lol haha

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 22:26
Lol yea, I hope to start going on track quite often though. Im looking at buying one of the half cages from rallye reg, dont want a full cage, cant be bothered to climb over door bars and watch my head lol.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 22:31
lolhaha yer theres 2 up for sale atm on there isnt there

they would be good man, plus you can always bolt on some door bars if you wanted too

see the one im getting is a 10 point bolt in, so i can always take the door bars out if i want toor plonk them back in cause they bolt on

and im a bit unsure whether to have them in cause of it being a daily and whether it would be a ballache climbing over them all the time lol

makaveli144
11th July 2009, 22:34
Im a bit unsure whether to have them in cause of it being a daily and whether it would be a ballache climbing over them all the time lol

thats exactly my thought about having a full cage.

vtr_chris90
11th July 2009, 22:51
yer lol but if its bolt in you can always keep the bars but put them in when you need them i.e like when you are going to track it or something like that, or to a show lol

but i may just put them in for the crack lol sod it

as much as it will be annoying it will be funny lol plus i know im safe if some cunt decided to ram me from the side, well safer

vtr_chris90
12th July 2009, 17:22
small update today

and quite a shit one

the car wont seem to run right, after agggggeeeessss of tweaking and messing about i got the idle good for a cammed idle lol, but it was just the running of the car thats shite, erm i think i know what it is and will be changing a few timings and clearences on tues night and weds night, but for now the car is going to be parked up on the drive

also luckily my dad knows the guy at shenpar so hes going to ring him tomrow and see if he can enlighten us a little, and then i will bne getting a remap asap, hopefully within the next 2 to 3weeks at the most

but the bit that cheered me up was for the couple of seconds now and again when you car did work and revved it sounded fucking awsome and insane, and banged like a bitch lol just cant wait to hear it when its running a bit better and mapped, should be insane

but changing the cam has changed the exhaust note sooooo much and its got louder too which i wasnt expecting much

but hopefull the car will be sorted soon, so all other little mods are on hold at the min untill engine is done

LEE_VTR1
12th July 2009, 17:30
today was a joke mate spent ages at yours tinkering aswell but im sure things will come togethers its defonatly got potential.

vtr_chris90
12th July 2009, 17:38
yer definatly man, just going to have a word with shenpar and get a remap my dads got an idea so will do that on tue night, then it should all be good, so give it two weeks and ill have it running with a remap hopefully

should be awsome man
and sound insane, today for that lil drive down the road was funny, those bangs were soooo loud lol

def got a few stares lol

vtr_chris90
12th July 2009, 22:46
well thought id get a couple of pics showing the final ish product lol before it got dark (sorry about quality was taken on phone lol)

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0182.jpg

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0183.jpg

all that is left now is just to tidy up the engine bay a little bit, tie up the wires, and wrap them in tape and move a couple of things around and get the batt into the boot so its not as cluttered that shall be done next week though

as my main concern for this week is to get it running properly well as close to it as i can, so just got to tweek the timing and clearences really and double check all the wiring and make sure theres no air being sucked in from anywhere

so its getting there slowly

but it will get there eventually lol well hopefully

vtr_chris90
12th July 2009, 22:47
oh and sort the breather filter out lol cause it looks quite shit, i think its time to order the catch tank lol

Liam_
12th July 2009, 22:49
Looking good mate - I bet it's awesome fun to drive when it's all sorted. Nowt wrong with an 8V lump imo!

vtr_chris90
12th July 2009, 23:11
yer should be great fun, couldnt really give it much when i took it wound the block today it just felt like nothing was there, so i changed the wires on tps round like frankie said and it was better, but i stil think the timing is wayyyy off lol plus need to check a couple of other things so hopefully wil get that sorted on tues and weds then take it for another drive

i know man 8v is the way forward i think lol

will be getting bodies around xmas i think

BTW, you have a PM!

thanks alot rush

yup got pm and replied

we have been a busy boy ain't we chris. lol

u need to take me in it when's it's running sound ;)

lol i sure have, still got lots to do yet before its running ok, i give it a week i think will be able to drive it safely then unmapped, well as safe as it can get lol ideally it would need a remap

but im waiting to get the predator ecu, which will be available in 6-8 weeks lol soooo i wont be going on track anymore at trax i dont think  unless its done within 7weeks and fitted which i dont think will happen lol

but as soon as i get the timing sorted you will have to pop over or see it at a next meet, as i cant make the one on 19th, plus it wont be fit enough to go to the welsh hills (i think thats where josh is taking us all lol) unfortunatly

makaveli144
15th July 2009, 22:27

Is it the timing your having problems with or just the mapping? I bet its a bugger having to wait, I hated waiting for mine and it was only a week lol. Should be worth it when its done though.

vtr_chris90
15th July 2009, 23:20
well both really lol

mapping, the only decent place ive found sooo far that can ap standard ecu is chipwizards which is 450 all in

but i spoke to andy who makes the predator and he will have one ready in about 8 to 10 weeks time, and thats an extra 50quid over chipwizards, plus i will benifit alot more from it so im just going to wait until i can get the predator ecu, as i want bodies in the near future too so will be better for them

also the timing is a pain inthe arse, plus doesnt help with other problems like mega overfueling lol, i had new spark plugs in the car in total since they were fitted with the new cam and head etc have run for about 2 hours pulled them out tonite and they were black as fuck lol plus my dads diagnostics read it was overfueling like a bitch too, but i have a few ideas why that is, which will be sorted on sat, also the inlet is a pain in the arse too as its still not quite idling right, but this could be affected by overfueling aswell so need to get the fueling sorted before inlet, and untill i now get them soorted i cant finish tweaking the timing really lol so is bit of a pain really

sooo far it has been right effort to cam the vtr lol but will allllll be worth it i hope lol

AlexB
15th July 2009, 23:31
16v would have been easier :P

vtr_chris90
16th July 2009, 18:56
lol but cammed 8v will be more fun hahaha

i dont want 16v anyway, i want to be a little diff from most people planting 16v in their vtrs

i want a throttle bodied 8v :A:

which could hopefully be not long after xmas

makaveli144
16th July 2009, 20:04
which could hopefully be not long after xmas
Surely you should have just waited if your going to body it? You are going to have to do it all again.

vtr_chris90
16th July 2009, 20:13
nahh cause the plan is just to put the throttle bodies on

im still using the same head and cam, as the rallyereg boys have ahd good results with this cam and bike bodies

so its only the inlet that ill be swapping, which tbh wasnt that much of a pain to fit, just made it harder due to cm timing and the fueling bein wayy off, that took us about 2 or 3 hours to fit and get to the best idle i could, but thatwas made harder by the timing being out and overfueling

but im not sure when after xmas it will be it could be around feb so ill get a good 6 months use from the s1 inlet lol haha

will be worth it though

makaveli144
16th July 2009, 20:37
The cams will need the timing adjusting and the mapping will need doing again. Having said that if you get a predator I guess he does it free.

vtr_chris90
16th July 2009, 20:42
yer it wont be too hard to adjust the cam timing again tbh now i know how to do it properly lol

but yer thats the other thing, it will be fine to get it tweaked and wont will probs cost alot less than a remap, probs even half that as it wont take anywhere near as long as it would to do a full remap really cause andy said it will take from 10 to around 3 to 4 to set the pred up do some cam timing tweaks if needed and rolling road it so surely tweaking it to bodies will take maybe half that lol

plus my dad knows nick at shenpar motorsport and he has a rolling road and cam remap standalones, and he said he will put it on rollers and get it all sorted for me when i go bodies, at a good price too, well all he will need to do is tweak a couple of the settings which wont take long either, cause hes only based in derby too so is local

vtr_chris90
17th July 2009, 21:56
right then once again another update

my bakerbm group n engine mounts have arrived this week

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0184.jpg

look good and feel nice and stiff lol

sooo this now means i have a full set of group n mounts :P

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0185.jpg

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0187.jpg

cant wait to get these fitted, was going to fit last night but it rained then at work it was dry so i thought id fit them tonite but then the rain came again lol

soooo will hopefully get them fitted one night next week now as getting my engine running will now take priority over the weekend lol

opinions then guys lol

Rob-6
17th July 2009, 22:07
i was going to get just the lower engine mount does it make a massive difference getting all of them!?

vtr_chris90
17th July 2009, 22:09
erm well with all of them they will make a huge diff

but even with just the bottom it will still make a huge difference to be fair, erm but may put stress on both the upper mounts as it could be too stiff for the standard items, i would say get a powerflex lower tbh that will still make a big difference, when i put my powerflex on i noticed the difference straight away it was great

Rob-6
17th July 2009, 22:15
think i will get the lower for now then cheers, car looks mint too!

vtr_chris90
17th July 2009, 22:29
thanks matey

group n lower or powerflex?

Rob-6
17th July 2009, 22:35
thanks matey

group n lower or powerflex?

not sure tbh dont no what to go for!?

vtr_chris90
17th July 2009, 22:38
erm well depends really, if your going to get group n upper gearbox and ecu soon then id say go for the group n lower

butt if its going to be a while before you get the full set then id look at powerflex lower for now as they still sell on 2nd hand for around 20quid so you dont loose out on a huge amount of money only around 6 or 7 quid

sup to you though dude

both will give you a great improvment obviously the group n more than powerflex, but powerflex is still a great upgrade, i said it was the best 25quid id spent on the car when i bought mine

Rob-6
17th July 2009, 22:40
think i will get the powerflex lower then buy all 3 group n mounts at a later date. cheers for the advice!

vtr_chris90
17th July 2009, 22:51
no probs matey

sooo.... finally got the car drivable on the road, the bad thing is i had to put standard vtr inlet mani on, and it runs fine now, although a bit lumpy with a few flatspots, but that will be sorted as soon as nick at shenpar can get me on his rollers to tweak my timing

i think one of the reasons i couldnt get it to idle was the icv on the rallye inlet was nackered, when you adjusted it to change the idle, put it on then took it off, it adjusted its self, but then put the vtr one on and it sort of cured it, but then it still really wouldnt idle, so i think some of the other sensors may have gone, but i will be fitting this the weekend before i go tot get it mapped, as ill be towing the car there anyway, and ill take new sensors with me and use the ones i need and return the ones i dont lol

the other problem was i found 2 of the injectors were fuckerood, when i removed them they were dribbling petrol out which isnt good, you wipe it away and more came out, so that would explain the stupidly high overfueling, so i adapted my vtr fuel rail so the injectors would reach the head, cause the vtr injectors are shorter than the s1 ralllye ones

and now it seems to be running wellish, certainly drivable, just seems to be a typical unmapped cammed engine now, although caam timing could do with a little tweak i think

end result quite happy with it, would have been better if i could keep rallye inlet on, but oh well shit happens lol

the car sounds absolutly insane lol sooo much louder bangs very loud aswell and when its not iin a flat spot it is alot more responsive and pulls alot better
and from what i can tell soo far it seems the cam kicks in around 3k but its hard to judge due to the flat spots

im hoping to go up the pod nearer the end of sept to test it all out if theres a show or something then

right then big update tonite, been quite busy past couple of days

i managed to get my upper group n engine mounts fitted

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt217/chrissyboy09/the%20vtr/vtr%20updates/Photo-0190.jpg

i ran out of time to get the lower one fitted

but even with just the upper two with powerflex lower it feels absolutly awsome, doesnt vibrate a huggeee amount, i think it will vibrate more with group n lower though
but still has been a massive improvement it pulls alot better and is alot more responsive

now for the bigg update lol

i have throttle bodies :P

well i picked these up off my mate tonite, got an absolute bargain, they are bmw k100 600cc bike bodies and they are 36mm so are just right really for 8v from what im told the kit is basically ready to plug and play, although i am trying to think of how to fit icv to them but cant think how

they do need a bit of a clean up though, well i think so lol, so going to clean them all up, get some nice polished aluminium trumpets aswell and clean the filters up cause they are filthy lol

i think they will go very nicely with the s1 head, 280deg newman cam i have and predator ecu, plus i may get some better injectors from my mate who i got the bodies from, cant remember what cc they are though

plus when i fit these ill be tidying the engine bay up more aswell i think so got a lot of things to do yet

also i have solid rear wishbone mounts to fit aswell, ill get pics of them up on thurs when im at the garage next

so what u think then guys

very nice mate, will be a proper sleeper when they are fitted and mapped up with the predator!!

Where did you get those group n mounts? im atfer the ecu side one?

vtr_chris90
28th July 2009, 22:48
thanks mate yer thats what im hopeing itll sort of be a little sleeper, well apart from the huuuge induction note from the bodies hahaha

im thinking it could acheive upto 140bhp, a guy on rr made 132bhp with 1.6xsi engine with only a 421 pugsport and bike bodies, similar to these, and he used the standard xsi cam which is 270deg, so i think with mine in theory it could be up to 140 id have thought

i have bakerbm upper and lower gearbox mounts and i have a spoox fastroad ecu mount they said that was same stiffnesss as the bakerbm pretty much, it cost me 135 for all 3 in total 50 from bakerbm and 85 for the ecu mount, but its like 9quid for postage on that one mount from spoox, i collected though as there only round the corner

awsome mounts though mate and a great price too
